Absolutely!! Those of us who were around when Hugo hit remember it vividly and it breaks my heart to think of the place where I was born and raised being ripped apart and destroyed by Matthew. And all of the families that will lose everything, the homeless who have nobody to turn to and no place to go, the pets that will be left behind to fend for themselves and the strays that most won't even consider..and the history and majesty of the SC coast being basically raped by nature...it really is devastatingly heartbreaking to even think about.
I can only imagine the craziness that good old Wal Mart is gonna experience in addition to the normal retardedness that goes on there with everyone going to stock up on supplies.
I was watching neighbors across the street last night set up over a dozen of those inflatable halloween decorations while thinking that they were gonna most likely be carried off by hurricane/tropical storm force winds in a few days. Not to mention some of the other decorations they set up that are going to be dangerous projectiles. Hopefully they'll have the common sense to take them back down.

I just got an email this morning confirming my flight time, etc. It definitely doesn't look good but I'm gonna wait out as long as possible

Looks like it just moved west as it reemerged from over Haiti back over water.

Here are the intensity models (which I think tend to be less reliable than the trajectory models -- but still useful)
This game will be moved tomorrow. Everyone has more important things to worry about.

The Ravenel bridge is harrowing in any kind of bad weather..it really will be nerve-racking come the weekend. I imagine they'll shut her down Sat or Sun depending on landfall. I would think they would wait as long as possible, though, to assure as many evacuate as possible.

Question: Wife and I were planning a vacation to Asheville in a couple weeks. Should we reconsider the date?

You're in Charleston? Do you happen to go to the alumni watch parties at Locals in Mount Pleasant?

I worry the intensity the Gulf Stream is going to give this storm a chance to use as fuel is being underestimated. It looks by the projection models as if it will basically be riding the Gulf Stream almost all the way to landfall.

Nahh, Asheville is 200+ miles west of this thing in the mountains. Plus, acter a couple weeks everything will be settled.

We have a place here, but we're mostly in Charlotte.

A nice jog East (just give me 50 miles further east) would be nice.
I live in the area that was hit by the two hurricanes in '04 s FL shitshow that made landfall within a few miles of each other...
We don't need another, still.

Well most of the models seem to have it as a 4 off the coast of Florida and a couple have it working it's way back to a 5.
I'm not sure who's picking this 2 number from for the television graphics but it seems a little misleading given the average from the chart I posted.

Miami beach where my condo is I believe is 2-3 feet above sea level all the way at the end of the island and basic rainstorms cause massive flooding. A direct hit there would be catastrophic not in terms of loss of life but damage. I don't know much about nc and sc but how far above sea level are those places?

It'll jog a little either way going over Haiti and Cu a as it goes over some 5k+ foot mountains. Once it clears Cuba, we'll have a good idea o4f the final track, I'd think.
