Yeah, a lot of shite is “allowable” in Texas. Doesn’t mean it’s legal. Met a Texas officer once who was bragging about how he got arrests. Some federal agents overheard him and told him his methods were illegal and and violated the constitution. He went on a long rant about how “Texas is special” and could violate the constitution and everyone in Texas does it and he could do what he wanted to catch criminals. They got him fired with a quickness. It was at that point I started realizing how delusional the state of Texas is.

Right, which is why the shooter will be in jail for a while. He imposed the incorrect consequence to the shoplifter.

My favorite jury nullification case:

Black business man in his 50's goes into a convenience. Punk white kid slings a few n-words at him. He ignores the kid. Man comes out, kid keeps it up. Man chastises the punk and tells him that he is "way out of line." Kid drops one more and the man punches him out. Not a hold him down and kick him beatdown. It was a nice old fashioned butt kicking.

Basically, our defense was that the kid "needed a whipping." Jury agreed. Jury forewoman asked the Judge if she could speak and the Judge said "yes." She said "young man, you did need a whipping."

I had a few other "he needed a whipping cases." They were fun to take to trial.

EVen worse, the frickups who take lunch breaks. That’s an hour during the middle of the day where work isn’t getting done.

lunch breaks were seriously looked down upon in my last job and if they needed people fired, those people would often be at the very top. It was expected you could take 10-15 minutes to heat something up or go across the street to the food court to get something to take back but people were pretty much expected to be chained to their desks.

stealing beer from a gas station when underage...walk in, grab beer>run.

we found it easier to just pay a bum hanging out front to get it for us, he got a couple of beers for the trouble. everyone wins.

you forgot the most important part...you have to yell "WAHOOOO" as you run out.

Yep but it all started because the teen stole the beer. Not trying to justify him being shot but it all started with that and caused a domino effect ending in his death.

I'm not taking up for Texas, just pointing out their laws. Shooting a suspect over property is allowable, particularly if they're fleeing. You can shoot a suspect if he's stealing and fleeing from your neighbor's home. It's happened.

Sure, but like you said, that doesn't justify him being shot, so...

Of course not, the clerk messed up.

Management probably wondered why people would jump at the first decent offer they got somewhere else too. I never understand this type of managerial thinking.

Yep, if your employees are happy, they usually work better. Short lunches are stupid.

Kind of my point. Don't steal, this doesn't happen. Not excusing the shooting, I wasn't there, don't know the specifics of the encounter, but if you don't steal, you aren't dead now. Decisions have consequences.

Yep, if he would have paid for the beer, he doesn't get shot whether the clerk was in the wrong or not. Definite cause and effect.

Regardless of the law, it takes a psychopath to shoot and kill someone over $10 of beer.

While it shouldn't be the go-to response for all shoplifting, apparently the shoplifter thought it was okay enough to do so brazenly. He didn't deserve to die over a bottle of beer but he shouldn't have stolen it in the first place and shouldn't have resisted the clerk in the second.

Play stupid games...

Not arguing that point. It started the dominos falling though.

OT Hypothetical:

What would happen if there was a similar case with a Louisiana jury, and the 50 something business man was white, and the kid was black? How do you think that jury would respond? I'm curious.
