OT Hypothetical: What would happen if there was a similar case with a Louisiana jury, and the 50 something business man was white, and the kid was black? How do you think that jury would respond? I'm curious.
In this day and age, it would be a media circus. I'm pretty sure he would be found guilty.

Whoa, I was in a convenience store that sells beer yesterday. What are the odds?

Should your boss be able to shoot you for spending 15 minutes on Tigerdropping while at work?

Clerk? Not even the owner?
Wow, That’s a dedication to your job!
many convenience store owners will deduct anything from your paycheck that gets shoplifted/stolen during your shift, not from cash register robbery but grab and run comes out their checks so in reality, if this was an owner like that, the clerk saw it as stealing from him personally, and rightfully so.
its away to deter clerks letting people they know get away with 5 finger discounts

Good idea except in this case. I wouldn't want it coming out of my check either but was it justified to shoot him??

Was shooting the kid over a beer the right thing to do.....absolutely not and I'm sure the guy will do his time over it, rightfully so.
However....shoplifting the beer is the reason he was shot. Your choices have consequences and unfortunately for the teen they were grave.

I agree with you, it all started because the teen stole the beer, he doesn't do that, we're not having this conversation.

How is he a victim if he was shoplifting?

"The victim/suspect stole a beer and goes out of the store,'' MPD spokesman Louis Brownlee said Sunday. "The suspect tries to stop him. Shoots at him. Hits him once. He doesn't officially know that he hit him.
Not so sure you can chase people down outside of the venue you are "defending" to shoot them, and still be protected by any type of castle doctrine. Really tough to make a self-defense type argument when it involves you deciding to leave the building to shoot someone.
