If you gathered 100 Mississippians in a room, statistically, at least 1 of them has an STD. The STD rate, depending on your source, is around 1,200 per 100,000 Mississippian, or 1 per every 100. The state has long been plagued by high rates of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.
quote:According to a 2023 report from the CDC, Mississippi ranked 3rd in the country for reported cases of primary and secondary syphilis. In that same report, Mississippi ranked 5th for gonorrhea and 2nd for chlamydia.
In years prior, Hinds County had the dishonor of having the highest STD rate of any county in the country. However, the state’s current boom of congenital syphilis, which follows a nationwide trend, has the medical community now labeling it an epidemic.
Syphilis, like other sexually transmitted diseases, is spread through bacteria upon contact with infected fluids; this usually happening through sex or various sex acts. Keep it in your pants baws

What the normal average for STDs? 1% doesn’t seem that high honestly.

I've never seen HIV medication billboards in Mississippi.
I saw three the last time I drove through Baton Rouge.

Congenital means “born with”.
Kinda hard for an unborn infant to keep it in their pants considering they are born nekkid.

It did not say 1% of sexually active 21 year olds. Just a note that may skew that perception of 1% of all residents having std

1 out of 100
That’s 100X Mississippi’s probability of finding full set of teeth.
That’s high, Baw.

Great. My daughter is headed back to Ole Miss tomorrow. Should I send penicillin with her?
