I work in downtown (mostly the Quarter). The changes since the State Police have arrived have been remarkable.

I applaud Landry for this. I voted for Waguespack, but admit that Landry is putting ut to Latoya with this move.

I don't love some things he does, but this is enough to get my vote in the future.

Its night and day in the Quarter from just a few months ago.

Admittedly, Canal St still needs work.

Has Jeff Landry been openly compared to Hitler by local media yet?

Landry has a weird way of doing things, but so far, he's doing wonderful things for Louisiana in about 80% of what he does.

Canal street has needed more police work since at least the early 70’s when I lived in Metairie.

The only fix is to raze that area and not rebuild housing there. If they jailed all the criminals from the area it would be easy. The housing would be vacant with the residents jailed, just need bulldozers.

I hate to break it to you, but that just means that the LA AG's office, instead of the Orleans Parish DA's office, is doing the prosecution. You still have the same Orleans Parish Criminal District Court judges and the same Orleans Parish jury pool. So this is certainly a good thing and a step in the right direction, but it's only fixing two of the four problems (law enforcement agency, prosecutor, judge, jurors).

Yeah you are correct, I intended to reply to the comment right above that saying "And then the charges will be dropped by the DA". All these cases will still end up in the OP criminal district court.

Another day, another chase. These boys staying busy.

quote:

A Louisiana State Police chase ended in a crash for the third day in a row Wednesday, state police confirmed.

Troop NOLA chased a stolen Chevrolet Camaro from Elysian Fields to the Interstate 10 off ramp at Orleans Avenue, where the car crashed, according to police.

One suspect was arrested, and no one was reported injured.

The chase is the third in as many days, and each has ended in a crash,

Was the consent decree in place because of nopd incompetence? Serious question.

She should try talking to some different public.

She can whine about it all she wants, but even Jason Williams understood the people of New Orleans are sick of this shite, which is why he made the deal with the AG’s office.

LSP isn’t bound by the consent decree, so there’s not a whole lot she can do about it.

Uh, Williams didn’t want this deal. He agreed to it because Landry made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

She and her ilk are the problem at this point.

I think he’s talking about the commercial area between the interstate and the river. It needs to manned every other block. Seems like there are 3-4 shootings that make the news a month. It’s filled with vagrants and piss and shite on the ground every block.

“Heightened public concern” is bullshite. That’s like when reporters say “sources say”- it’s actually her that’s concerned because she knows she has no oversight on the LSP. Frick her and her ilk.

No chase is a pretty insane policy, and would genuinely want to know how you spin this as a good idea.

If you are in a stolen car with a machine gun and a NOPD cop signals you to pull over . . . you avoid arrest but just not doing it?

Seems like that pretty much weeds out ever arresting the lifestyle criminals that drive the crime rate, and leaves orly the innocent people and the decent people in the middle of a bad decision to be stopped and arrested.

Seems like a kid or grandma will get hit during one of these chases soon.
