re: State and local lawmakers caught off guard by Broom’s storm water fee falsehoods

State and local lawmakers
The state and local lawmakers support the fee, that's why they passed the stormwater utility district in the first place.
If it had been a lower fee attached to the sewage and water bill, then it would have passed.
BR Government would have gotten immediately sent to court if they had tried to go through with adding it to our property taxes without a public vote.

great follow up by Nak
frick “Nak”. He’s in Brooms pocket (directly or via his employer) since she got elected. If he’s following up, he’s doing so with her and her office’s knowledge and you best believe they’re vetting his reports before they go public. He’s a disgrace as is all of Baton Rouge media except Kiran.

Broome is still pissed about the St.George vote.
She knows that eventually the citizens of St.George will eventually gain control of their tax revenue and BR will have a sudden revenue hole to deal with.
What folks don’t see is the storm water fee/tax that she wanted would drive business out of the parish.
She wanted this fee/tax on churches and schools in the parish.Truly Evil.
Folks with homes valued less than $75k would probably pay nothing.
If passed the parish would become a Center of Poverty with a few corner stores that survive on EBT transactions.

Instead, the Mayor’s office set out to impose massive fees to do who knows what with. The actual storm water and drainage folks are furious at how badly the Mayor has screwed this up. It’s at the point that the original purpose, reducing flooding and keeping trash out of surface water, may not even happen.
And yet you, being the moron that you are, would vote for her again.

She’s not as horrible as the mayors of New Orleans or Jackson.
I can’t speak for Jackson but from what I read on here she’s as incompetent as Latoya, possibly even more so. Latoya does some good things / projects, but they don’t get talked about because of her blatant disregard for rules and basic decorum.
Broome seems like a total moron who does nothing of note and even worse does it without the public noticing.

I think the biggest story here is that WBRZ actually reported on this. It must be getting way too big to ignore for them to be critical of their boss.

They are trying to cover their own arse.
While that's happening, no one is finding out exactly what it would take to meet whatever federal guidelines we might be violating. And if we can meet that within the constraints of the current budget or not.
We still have drainage issues because of Broom and her staff's incompetence. And we might even get penalized by the feds because of Broom and her staff's incompetence.
She needs to go.

What were they hiding with that NDA/gag order????
We still don’t know.
Broome said she wasn’t involved in negotiations. The streets and drainage dept. head, Fred Raiford, said he wasn’t involved in negotiations. Apparently the Parish Attorney, Hill the CAO who quit suddenly, and a third party law firm were. That’s odd.
What are they all hiding?

Kiran needs to investigate WAFB "news".
WAFB article
Where is this "confirmation" they speak of?

WAFB has confirmed that everyone in the administration involved in the negotiations with the DOJ and the EPA, has had to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Plenty of money to sue St. George too!

That article is over three weeks old.
It looks like it was written by the Parish Attorney to hide something from the public.

SWB is a dumpster fire, and she was BIG scared in this meeting.

Wait, was this article deleted off of WBRZ?

That makes no fricking sense.
I'm not doubting you. I'm just saying that Broom's office is completely mismanaged. I realize there might be a learning curve, but she's been in office for a while and still screws up basic things.
Is it incompetence or corruption or both?

SWB is a dumpster fire, and she was BIG scared in this meeting.
When asked direct questions regarding the timeline she had nothing but bullshite excuses.
Evaded the direct questions regarding the timeline of events, reached out to the white guy standing next to her asking for papers, and SWB had no idea WTF she was looking for when perusing the documents
SWB- “we just need to communicate better”

Just an easy way to sneak some money into the budget from tax payers

JR Ball wrote a great editorial fir BRBR. It’s in this month’s issue. The entire article is behind a paywall but there’s a “free” outline here;

Sharon Weston Broome is done as mayor of Baton Rouge.
This is the stark reality after the October massacre that was her double-secret, truth-avoiding, flawed-fee mockery of a stormwater management plan, writes Business Report Associate Publisher JR Ball in his new opinion piece.
