If done right, casinos can be a great source of entertainment, atmosphere, and bring in amazing revenue. Yuppies on the West of the parish won’t complain about the tax dollars being shared with the entire parish.

The problem is I have no faith that it won’t be more of a bloated truck stop with some slot machines. Seriously though if they made it like some of the “neighborhood casinos in Vegas (the ones off the strip) it could actually be a net plus for the parish.

Bet we’re gonna have as much trash and cigarette butts on the side of the road on I-12 as I see every day on I-10 once this eventually gets approved.

Reminds me of a third world country seeing all the trash piled on the side of the road when I’m on I-10 passing the Xavier area towards Superdome.

I’d enjoy going there from time to time but it’d immediately turn Slidell into Nola East

I'm torn. I live right by the proposed casino build sight and part of me thinks it would be fun to take the boat there once the new marina is built. But, on the other hand I like how quiet it is here now.

Something is being built. But what is the question. Unfortunately a casino well kept is the best option. Good luck w ghetto apartments and another Walmart

The only way they are done right is when it draws revenue into the local economy from outside the area. Otherwise it cannibalizes disposable income that would have been put to more productive use. Casinos have become so ubiquitous that very few of them outside of Vegas are destination resorts. Nearly all of them are just giant drains on the local economy. What jobs and tax revenue they provide are more than offset by income lost to other local businesses and savings lost to local families.

What does that even mean?

I mean, when a normal person says it.

Assuming normal people do.

Not everybody who opposes casinos are "evangelicals."

Seriously if you are in Mandeville or Covington, why do you have a say what businesses operate in Slidell. If you don’t like that they have a casino then don’t go there. Pretty simple from my perspective

We’ll to be brutally honest, Slidell is bad enough as it is, so I don’t think a Casino and all the accompanying baggage would make it better just worse.

Zoning issues remain. Mandeville lakefront not same zoning as this property.

Read the entire proposal. The vote is for allowing casinos in St Tammany parish. Slidell is front and center because there is a project and location lined up.

A yes vote is for the parish, not just Slidell. If it’s voted for, then other casinos will propose other locations across St Tammany and the residents won’t have a chance to vote next time.

A yes vote would open up the door for other casinos. Read up on it before you look dumber than you already appear.

The evangelicals are a hard no on this issue though, and they're the ones that got video poker taken out in the 90s because even though they scream "FREEDOM!" they're all about legislating what other people can do with their lives even though its legal elsewhere.

In Texas this election, we have a constitutional amendment to allow rodeos to do lotteries as a fundraiser. The “Freedom Caucus” in the legislature is opposing it, because they oppose all “gambling.”

Can it potentially bring more crime from NOLA east over the bridge? Of course, but that’s happening already.

Add an amendment to nuke the twin span and the Causeway.

The rest of St. Tammany will be for it as they won't have to deal with any of the issues and reap the benefits. The only way it works is to keep the trash out. Slidell has been sold out to Section 8 so...

Undecided. If I lived in Slidell, I'd be opposed as shite. As someone unaffected in any direct way, I can see it as revenue for the Parish. That said, I know I'll never go to proposed casino.

Might vote against.

You ever watch a zoning meeting? They change the zoning anytime someone with money shows up and makes a request. Zoning is a low hurdle.

You can get anything zoned and permitted in STT if you pay enough to the right people.

Totally fricking false information. The zoning on the properties is totally different.

Unless they rezone Prestress.
