St Tammany is a lost cause. Mandeville used to be perfect. Now it’s Lil St Bernard. Sad!
i bet the northshore was pretty awesome in the 80s/90s though

Mandeville has more of a smaller BR feel then anything related to Jefferson parish

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It’s nothing like either really, but in terms of if you had to compare it to something it has way more in common with BR than Jefferson
Neighborhoods that were built in 90s or early 2000s, neighborhoods with one way entrance and clear zoning (no cut through streets and a bar or laundromat right in the middle) etc

No I'm acting as if StTP has no major economic generators in the area besides strip malls, WalMart, gas stations, and Dollar General.
To think that this place is going to be a "major economic generator" is ludicrous.
It will wind up being at the same scale as the Treasure Chest in Kenner or Boomtown on the west bank. It may add a bit more tax money to local coffers, and offer a place for locals to get cheap buffet meals, but it certainly won't have a multiplier effect and major economic impact.

tax revenues are undeniable.
what they do with monies is another question.
They are already proposing building the sportsplex etc that is badly needed in st. tammany.

I always laugh when people point to their area's growth as some kind of thing to be proud of. Growth is what gets you from the bucolic Northshore of the 80's/90's to the unchecked suburban sprawl of today. The trick is to find someplace in equilibrium, that's not growing or declining. Can be done, but it's hard.

In Mandeville and it’s a hard no from me. Just brings in more trash and crime 18 miles down the road. I’m all for jobs and development but trashy development isn’t what I’m after.

I don’t have real strong feelings about it but would likely vote for it and I’m glad that I get that chance.

My main complaint about the Slippa is that it is in too much of an out-of-the-way location. You have to drive down a two-lane road and watch out if there is a high tide you might not make it out.
Also, the place is small compared to other coast casinos. Their buffet prices have followed Joe Biden's inflation plan costing now 50 bucks a person and they may have even reduced the nights with crab. I don't go over there anymore as often because they never treated me like the degenerate gambler that I was. Heck, I even pass up the New Orleans casinos because of how lousy they would offer free play and other comps to me.
I would get much better offers from Food to rooms and free play from the other MS Coast Casinos which is where I spend my money and time.
So depending on how this place evolves, heck I may stop there a time or two.
Signed
Degenerate Gambler

Can't have a St. Tammany thread without blaming St. Bernard for all the problems.

This is true and this is why I am okay with the casino in Slidell.
People currently go to Mississippi to gamble from eastern New Orleans so this will short stop that.

I’ll take it. Why keep giving Ms all the profits and the jobs. You do know that our state is broke…right?

How?
If you have a place that is attractive then people
Will want to move there . Mandeville is a nice place. Covington is a nice place. People feel safe. There is more quality of life for families.
So people move there. If they can’t get into the old parts of the town that have the most charm, they move to outlying areas and thus the sprawl.
On a larger scale, this happens in areas like Aspen, Santa Fe New Mexico, And closer to home, areas like fairhope alabama. These are charming places and people want to live there.
How do you stop it?
