A normal response to seeing the video would be: "damn, there is more to this story than we thought, it makes sense that a guy getting confronted by police after robbing a store may jump the cop and force the cop to shoot him, more sense than a cop shooting a man on his knees with his hands up"

And then a few hours after that, when I'd resigned myself to it being a simple case of cop pursuing bad guy, the police chief casually mentions the cop didn't initially make contact with the deceased for anything other than walking in the (side) street. And then walks out of the press conference. If you can't process that as mitigating information, I want to make sure I note your screen name and don't bother responding to you any more.

But this racially driven "hands up don't shoot" (more like "I'mma taunt and charge your arse, don't shoot.") nonsense is getting annoying.

I was watching Fox News last night and some reporter was doing a live broadcast on the street with protesters. As he's talking, some chick walks into the shot next to him with the "hands up, don't shoot" pose, looking into the camera. Then immediately gives the double birds while he continues to talk, and the camera pans away.

Stay classy...lol

Also, the dude in the top pic doesn't live nowhere near Crestwood. So, unless someone has perfected the hairline change, working two FT jobs at once and living in two places, that ain't the guy.

Do anyone mind giving me an update? Last I heard was the officer didn't know Brown was a suspect at the "initial contact" (that's what someone on the Poliboard said yesterday).

Nixon is holding a presser at 3 to discuss new steps to prevent looting.

If he doesn't put a curfew in place he is an idiot.

Thats what the chief said, but he has also made multiple statements after the initial comments to convolute the entire situation.

This is why people are pissed at the police today

quote:
@AntonioFrench: By the time I arrived, the police were gone, as were the tear gas and smoke. Based on previous nights, that seemed strange. #Ferguson

@AntonioFrench: A photojournalist friend told me what they saw a few minutes before...

@AntonioFrench: They said after a tense standoff following an individual throwing a bottle at an officer, police were pulling back...

@AntonioFrench: They said as police and the tanks were DRIVING AWAY they shot tear gas into the crowd, "Like a big frick you," they said. #Ferguson

@AntonioFrench: Based on later conversations, I don't know if that use of tear gas was authorized. But sure did make getting ppl calmed down more difficult.

If you're interested you can read his twitter feed for a full run down of last night.

One that was left out:

Antonio French @AntonioFrench · 3h

I want to be clear: Police not coming in at this point -- even with the looting -- was a good thing. It would've gotten very violent.

If additional information provided by other sources (which may or may not be true, I don't know) indicating that initial contact was about the street, but just after, the broadcast came out over the radio about the robbery, and the cop noticed the stolen cigars and the perp matched the description, and thus re-initiated contact with him, would you also recognize that as mitigating information?

Even with properly executed tactics and small arms, without reinforcement from the outside no riots would end in a victory other than police rule.

How many people, including officers, would be killed and/or injured in this scenario? And yes I know all of you think the looters are "savage animals" who deserve to die but I think it would take more than looting and destruction of property for any law enforcement agency to pursue this path.

Self police the looters and the culture that produces them.

This is what occurred last night. There's only so much citizens can do but many guarded businesses, put out fires, ect to keep things contained.

Stop reinforcing negative stereotypes that only serve to perpetuate and justify further violence

There are people of all races, creeds, and colors who are inherently bad. They do no care about your low opinions and talk of stereotypes. When you generalize all black people with this segment of the population is when you lose the opportunity for any meaningful discussion

The story did go a bit like the friend/witness said. Cop yells at them to get out of the road.

The chief mentions this as a parting comment in his PC. And then leaves with no further information after implying all morning that it was a simple case of robbery/see the robber/try to take him into custody.

Then friend of girlfriend of officer/shooter goes on local/syndicated radio show to say that the officer saw the cigars after he told them to get out of the road and said "Those are the robbers." From there, he and Michael struggled and Michael runs away. Then he turns, taunts the cop, runs back at him and cop puts one in his dome.

Then police chief goes to the local Paper and says, "Btw,..." And repeats that story as gospel truth.

Yes.

Of course, but why wouldn't the Chief say that?
