In a perfect world, they want the police there. But they also understand that had the police moved in, there would have been a dozen stores destroyed, not 3 or 4. There would have been more violence, not more. If the good people that are in that community are seeing that, and trying to police it themselves, maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't think French is an ignorant man.

I'm glad Antonio is happy the police didn't stop the looters. I bet the business owners involved are just as thrilled, probably throwing pizza parties as they watch more destruction to their livelihoods.

Well, I do, but I meant the official version from his mouth, in an official report, as opposed to what a supposed friend says he says. And also, way more details.

I've read it all but don't really get the politics behind the cops' actions

This.

And the main reason it's done is to feel better about internal prejudices.

Well, the problem now is, no one knows the cops' actions. Or the dead guys. It's all speculation.

I want to be clear: Police not coming in at this point -- even with the looting -- was a good thing. It would've gotten very violent.

Which is the equivalent of saying - yeah I killed 1 person but if the police had come I would have killed 3. Thus it was a 'good thing'.

A bunch of pieces of shite looted while those who swore to serve and protect were told to retreat. Anyway saying giving slime anarchy is a 'good thing' is ridiculous.

The French logic is it doesn't matter how many crimes have been committed right at this time. As long as they stop it is all good. Fack people's property - we need to make sure the precious looters and rioters are not subject to violence.

I don't know if that's a fair statement of his logic. I don't think he is concerned with the looters/rioters not being subject to violence. I think he is concerned with restoring peace so that the amount of damage/looting is minimized, not so that the looters are protected.

Funny ... given your extended argument concerning rioting earlier.

You conflate rioting with protesting because you're a jaded old cynic who thinks idealism is ridiculous.

Right. I decided I should wait until the trial to form an opinion

At first I was sure it was murder. Now I realize there is another side to the story and it could've been justified. But I still have a hard time with the way it was handled, like EMS not being called. And I feel like he could've responded differently

Seems right. I think it is a poor tactic.

My black people are not a monolith, we arent all the same, anyone that feels this way on here just exposes their own ignorance.

No reason to shoot someone that surrenders, especially when you have folks that are shooting up movie theaters and schools being allowed to peacefully surrender
