I love these old cities. So much history. There’s charm to be had. But St. Louis required more digging to find that shite than even Baltimore. It’s in rough shape. It’s not the team’s fault the stadium didn’t get a whole lot of traction going for the rest of downtown. Hell, the Blues play down there too.

How the hell does St. Louis have such a large metro population while the city itself is below 300,000 now
I would assume because anybody wanting to stay close to St. Louis wanted to make sure they left the city limits. White flight created new communities and cities. Look at St. George.

They were the 3rd city to have the Olympics. And look where they are now. At least the big arse park in the middle of the city with the free museums and zoo is still nice.

This story is repeating itself in many once great American cities.
Years ago I went to visit my sister who lived across the bay from San Francisco, back when they were good.
We decided to take on an Oakland A’s game but didn’t know until we got there it was “Trade A Gun For A Ticket Day”, no shite.
Needless to say, it was a circus.

Did you not try Ballpark Village which is directly across from Busch Stadium? I find it hard to believe that every single one of those places were closed after the game.

What made it like this? Was it the dirt that made it inhospitable? The air?

East St Louis is BY FAR the most ghetto, poverty stricken, desolate, rough, sad, pitiful, apocalyptic, run down place in America I have ever been. It can't be overstated how awful it is.

It’s up there.
I also propose Camden, NJ.
Unreal how bad it is.

Exactly. It’s clear it was a hell of a city at one point and you’re just left to wonder what happened.
St. Louis is my city.
We all know what happened.
And it has to do with the 300,000 people living in the city and the 2,000,000 not living there. The 2,000,000 are content to let the city die on the vine because the city can’t get its shite together. That’s why Clayton, the city seat for St. Louis County, is nice. St. Louis County has poured its money into its own new downtown.
Eventually, the Cardinals, the Blues, and all the businesses will move their locations to the County.
And the city will fester.
It’s a loss born of racism, idiocy, progressivism, bad fricking politics, and greed.
But also, I was there not long ago and you’re full of shite because the Union Station area was slammed, the Blues drew a big crowd, the bars were active.
You went on a fricking Tuesday against the Mets.

I went to the top of the arch one August day & it was one of the most miserable disappointing experuences of my life.

Social House II is the sports bar where waitresses wear painted on shirts.

Kids love it
St. Louis has a lot for kids and families actually.
The Science Center
The Zoo
Grants Farm
The City Museum
The Children’s Museum (Magic House)
The Aquarium
Union Station
The Arch
Art Museum
History Museum
Laumeier Sculpture Park
Parks all over the place, but definitely Forest Park and the parks in West County
Fairs
Hell, go to Six Flags in the morning, grab some Sugarfire BBQ when you leave, hit the Anheuser Busch Tour (kids actually love it and it is family friendly - Clydesdales), go to Forest Park and play or go to the free zoo, then hit up Zia’s or Gian Tony’s for dinner.
Stay at the Chase Park.

The nice suburbs of St Louis are nicer than any place in Louisiana.
Probably, yeah.
My point still stands wrt St Louis proper, though.

One of the few large cities in America that I have yet to visit.
Western Missouri is beautiful though.
That’s all I got

STL was bombarded with nuclear radiation by the US Gov many decades ago. Not by a neutron bomb, though.

Absolute ghost town downtown. Horribly placed stadium. No nightlife. No people around.

East St. Louis, IL
West Memphis, AR
Gary, IN
Those are top tier dystopian hellscapes for sure.
