“You need to live in the area to purchase tickets”
First step in the process of buying a ticket is putting in zip code.I live in Grant Parish, apparently that’s close enough. The rest of the form came up for me to buy a ticket.I’m thinking one has to live in the state where the houses are located,
Anyway,I’m going to enter everyone available next year, couple tickets.
I seriously doubt I would ever win the house but if I did I would sell it.It would be nice to win one of the lesser prizes.

I know someone that won the dream home several years ago.
I know one that won it in BR and I used to drink beer with him at Just Wing It. Think he was from around that side of town.

Shreveport pediatrician Dr. Donald Mack, started the home give-away fundraiser in the early 1990’s. Today, communities all over the country have a raffle, and it has raised over $700 million.
Dr. Mack was a longtime supporter and advocate for St. Jude’s. He was the first doctor outside of the Memphis region to send a patient to St. Jude’s. Today the hospital treats patients from all over the world.

How can it be my dream home when the home is not in a dream location?
Because it's in Benton

This one was on the Northshore.

Same, know someone that won it a few years ago in BTR. Sold it to pay the taxes on it immediately.
Did their last name start with a W?

That’s awesome, I had no idea.
It’s in Nashville as well now, not just Memphis.

The law firm where my wife works handles the closings on the SJ Dream Home each year in our area of MS. The winner has to bring a check for about 30% of the value of the home to cover the taxes.

Yep. I worked with a guy who won it years ago. He had to take out a loan to pay the taxes.

There's the rub. If it's a $450,000, you have to have $135,000 on hand to clear the taxes.
Is there no way to wait until after the sale to cover the taxes? I mean, if you don't want to keep it and want to sell it immediately.

Jenny Finch won the shreepoat house a couple years ago. I think she buys multiple tickets for every raffle in La. She donated the house back to St Jude.

Don’t know anyone that has won one, but those that are in my area (Madison or Flowood, MS) have been some damn fine homes. I have toured them a couple of times and buy a ticket every year.

I know a guy that won one a few years back in LC. He paid a good bit of taxes on it and ended up selling it after he won it.

Also be ready to pay taxes on the home if you win.
Not a real issue to win a 750k home and have to make a small mortgage for taxes. Sell your current home and all is paid off with plenty of extra.

You cant sell it or mortgage it before the taxes are paid on the income. Many people aren't able to take possession of these homes because of this fact.
Meh...you can sign a sell agreement and have potential buyer pay the taxes, or a lawyer, or just immediately take out a Heloc. Knowing local bankers is huge

we've bought a few. Not sure I'd want to live in any of the ones in the lafayette area. They are nice houses, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather take the money from selling it, and buy a nice piece of property and build something.
Same. here. We buy them every year, but I certainly don't want to live off River Rd. in BR
