St. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake on this day in 1431…

May 30, 1431, a 19-year-old peasant girl who couldn’t read or write was burned at the stake on the charge of heresy. Her trial was a kangaroo court of corrupt civil and church officials who were loyal to the English crown. By charging her as a heretic and having her executed, these powerful men were attempting to delegitimize the claim of Charles VII to the French throne (which they believed belonged to the King of England by right).
However, the death of Joan d’Arc could not stop the tide which she orchestrated from turning against the English. France would ultimately emerge victorious in the Hundred Years War and Joan’s reputation would be rehabilitated in her posthumous re-trial of 1456. She was canonized at saint of the Catholic Church in 1920.
St. Joan of Arc, pray for us.

The blood on La Hires sword is almost dry… La Hire wishes to kill something!

I wish they'd make a movie about David Duke and cast Denzel Washington

My great x8ish uncle was burned at the stake for heresy in 1555 in England during the Marian Persecutions.
Died for his Protestant beliefs so I could one day be a good Catholic like he should have been.

Dude if every man had a kid at 40 (which would be vrry high) that would only be 400 years ago. You're probably great x16ish to get back to the mid 1500s.
ETA: I have a great x12 grandfather that was an original Cajun settler in Avoyelles and that was 1760s.
