I would not leave this past the City of BR annexing everything commercial while leaving out neighborhoods all over the parish.
Congratulations to the St George organizers and I hope it goes to the ballot.

Questions...
1) Why is this being routed through the AG office? I wonder if that's why it was so delayed.
2) What does "the governor has to approve" mean? Can he blow it up legally?
I don't know if the people of St. George would be better served by having their own city. But I completely believe they should have the right to vote on it.

The attempt When BR quickly incorporated the businesses south of I10 starting around Bluebonnet did they also incorporate the neighborhoods south towards Burbank and Ms River?
I remember some of the businesses wanting to be included in the city instead of the then proposed St George, but I just looked at google maps and it’s drawing BR city boundaries around those neighborhoods that I thought had some support for St George or at least a desire to not be in city of BR.
Edit: I saw this article from March but not sure if BR did additional annexing since.

Great news. I wish they'd tell us the number of signatures they got this time around. Missing by 71 votes last time was such a joke.

I was just reading the statutes and noticed this provision:

If such area is located in more than one parish, the cost of the election shall be prorated between the parishes on the basis of the percentage of electors residing in each parish who are eligible to vote in the election. The results of the election shall be determined and promulgated as provided in R.S. 18:1300.
La.R.S. § 33:3(B)
So EBR has to bear the costs of the special election.

I believe the law was changed to freeze the borders in question given the frickery from last time.

Signatures of twenty-five percent of the electors residing in the area proposed for incorporation shall be required in order to file the petition
Shall file the petition with the registrar of voters for the parish or parishes in which the unincorporated area is located
The registrar of voters shall issue a certificate stating that twenty-five percent or more of the electors residing in the area proposed for incorporation have signed the petition. The registrar of voters shall forward this certificate to the governor (WHERE PROCESS IS CURRENTLY)
If the governor finds that there has been compliance, he calls a special election to be held on the next possible date for special elections
Special election determines whether the unincorporated area described in the petition shall become a municipality

In a special election this passes in a landslide. I have a feeling that the powers that be will try to stick it on a ballot with a low projected turnout with a few special interest taxes instead though. I still think it will pass the vote if it makes it that far, waiting to see the creative reasoning they come up with to torpedo this. If EBR worked half as hard to fix the parish as they have to stop St. George it would have never gotten to this point.

Anyone living within the boundaries of the proposed St George.

How long does JBE have for this certification?
Odds that he sits on it long enough so that it doesn't go on the ballot until AFTER this fall's elections?

I wouldn’t put it past him to try.
I had pollsters calling me to determine my views on JBE and the parish level officials (SWB, city council, DA, sheriff) last night. Which tells me they are very nervous how this will affect things both this year and next year.
