WBRZ

I wasn't aware they were being turned in so soon. Haven't seen any outrage from the Advocate yet, so time will tell.

quote:

A petition to bring the City of St. George to a parish-wide vote is expected to be turned in today. More than 16-thousand signatures will have to be verified by the East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar's Office.

I didn't think that many were needed? Or maybe that's how many they have?

If you watch the video, I think this was more of a political way to say Baton Rouge will be in trouble losing this much tax base.

BR is worried. They’re trying to annex a few areas now to make them have to redo the signature drive.

Of course, Advocate ran a story this weekend stating that because of the elections and the Registrar "waiting" on a response from the AG to some questions that were apparently sent some time ago, the signatures likely won't be verified until the late Spring at the earliest.

damned convenient, isn't it?

There's an article in the Advocate today about BR wanting to annex more commercial properties. The fight is about to kick in again.

Too bad they can't do that

Just let the people vote and decide for themselves. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that.

If only it were that simple.

Never have so many outsiders been so energetic!!

They are doing everything they can to block a vote.

Why not?

I would think BR could move to annex at any time.

I honestly don't know the process here and don't live in BR so I appreciate any info you have.

If they’re smart they’ve got verification already done so they can’t have Together BR convienently challenge just enough to keep it off the ballot.

State law says that once an area has been defined, and a petition started to incorporate an area; that area can't be annexed until after the date designated for the petition drive to end.

They internally verified every single one. Any that had mistakes were sent back out to the person who signed to have them resign to correct their mistake.

Hope it works out for you guys. You need to get as far away from BR as possible.

No they cannot since they would just annex a tiny spec of land and force any neighboring incorporation efforts to start over. Obviously that isn’t in good faith and it’s no longer allowed.

No. Only if you live in the proposed city do you get to vote.

Which is hilarious because 99% of the “one br” and “better together” signs are all outside of the proposed city can’t imagine why
