Taxes

Building the infrastructure to run a government or business cost money.

Let me guess. They want the state of Louisiana to cut them a check for the start up cost. And then they can collect taxes after someone else paid for the start-up cost. And Louisiana is balking at cutting them a check.

I'm sure it will be spun some other way but that's what it comes down to.

The hate for St. George in this thread from the usual suspects is absurd. While I agree they shouldn’t be looking for handouts, why should law abiding citizens expect a law suit due to the result of a duly held election in which all rules, procedures, and precedents followed.

The fact that you anti St. George people think this way makes me sick and you are e reason our sue happy state has continually been hostile toward business and why our state continually get stuck in the shitter.

ETA

Y’all say they should have planned for this and had money city money stashed away. What city money? Not a single person has paid a St. George tax yet. SWB won’t even meet to discuss taxes without the lawyer who’s putting up a lawsuit just to delay the city founding present.

A lot of them probably live in suburbs that were formed exactly like this

I have no feelings either way about StG. The fact that they’ve had to fight tooth and nail to get to this point should’ve been a clue to them that this wouldn’t end with an election. Should there be a lawsuit? No, but that’s reality these days. Even without the lawsuit, they have no organized way of obtaining capital to pay all of the other costs with establishing a government

So damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Glad we can just submit to corrupt government. Basically the Democrats motto since all they want is to have government control and pass around all the money so it’s not surprising.

Because when they attempted to create that organized way, the governor denied it.

Because he's part of the group trying to stop this.

What was their plan? And how were they going to implement it with no money?

Maybe that could be discussed with a mayor president willing to talk to the new city representatives but she refuses to.

"The leaders who created St George and made all the promises can handle the legal fees. They wanted the headache, they can deal with it. I wish them good luck, but they got what they wanted, now it’s time for them to start working"

Accept the Mayor is using everyone's tax dollars to sue citizens who she told to go form a city. Let that sink in - and you are fine with that.

What? There is no government. Who has been fairly elected to discuss transferring monies from Baton Rouge to St George. Which isn't a city yet cause it doesn't have a government.

And yes I'm being cheeky. Downvote away

The people that have been pushing for this and were supposed to meet with the mayor president. Nice to know the mayor continues to show she doesn’t give a shite about anyone but the city people.

Their plan was to win the election, meet amicably with the parish president (you know the person who’s supposed to represent them and the rest of the parish), and decide how the now designated city taxes will be collected, those taxes would now be used to pay for things the city needs, you know, because they are city taxes.

But instead the mayor of Baton Rouge brought her personal lawyer into the meeting and torpedoed it strictly to not allow the newly and legally formed city to collect their taxes and pay for city services.

Now jack wagons think private citizens should have stashed away hundreds of thousands of dollars away for a legal fight that has no constitutional or legal basis to begin with

Who was going to meet with her? Who had the authority to negotiate that on behalf of StG? Shouldn’t you need a government to do that on behalf of the taxpayers of StG?

Which brings us back to how were you going to fund that government?

Well governor honor code needs to appoint the representatives per the state constitution, but he’s sat on his hands in order to not piss of constituents in EBR.

You think the two citizens were going to pay for it?

There is no St. George yet. There is no tax base.

So, how did YOU think they were going to pay for it?
