There is no city yet ... no tax structure, no mayor, just citizens trying to get it started. JBE killed the transition plan and now BTR is complaining that there is no plan??? Mary olive Pearson and other people that currently have power are trying like hell to keep this from reaching the finish line.

If only “whitey” could benefit from the government taking money out of others paychecks and then redistributing this money to others who have done nothing to deserve it other than exist.

Nope, they knew this would happen and should have planned for it

Who should have planned for it? The voters?

e. Schools being the main topic of course, and how much of the parish money comes from the area of st George and then what percentage of it is spent back in the st George community.

The mayor has little to nothing to do with schools. You want to discuss and fix schools? Elect better school board members.

Surely someone organized this entire effort, and it didn’t just show up on the ballot out of nowhere, right?

Are they really asking for help paying the legal fees after years of promising they’d be ok financially?

You realize that the city is not incorporated yet. There is no tax money available.

The responses from the SG critics were predictable, but man there sure are a lot of keyboard patriots here. Downvote away.

Yes.

We understand that they are asking for taxes from anyone without anything in return. Which can be called a donation.

No thanks.

At the expense of defending JBE, Broome, et al, this is far from the full story. But I’m sure you know that.

St George has no government yet. They have no money as they haven't collected any tax dollars to date.

I don't see how this is hard to understand.

The amount of ignorance in this thread is pretty astounding.

Nah, organizers should have saw this coming. They knew well before the election the lawsuits were ready to go no matter the outcome of the voting. They even gave press conferences saying that. Now after the fact they want me to donate money to help with the poor planning.

Look the lawsuit is ridiculous but begging for money after the fact is equally as ridiculous you knew this was going to happen

I’m sure the organizers are doing it all out of the goodness of their hearts too. Nothing in it for them. “Just trust us with your property values and tax futures! Now just give us a little more to get started but it will all be worth it!”

The quality of the schools has more to do with the quality of the students attending them.

Riddle me this. How were they planning to pay for all of the startup costs, salaries, etc of forming a new government?
