Glen Oaks being a decent neighborhood. Ditto for Greenwell Springs near Airline, Lobdell etc.

From what I have seen, I think there is a chance that the taxes of those in St. George may stay even or go down.

Which is still bad for BR.
Yep. Which is why I said "It is too late now".
I think the smartest thing they could do is try and have a peace conference and help them form an ISD and everything else remain the same. It would show that the City leadership including the media recognize the failures of the past. Many would say it is too late for that.

Simply doesn't happen in local government.

In short, this is an unintended consequence of other issues in the 70s and 80s biting us in the arse now.
This is 100% correct. The federal desegregation order fricked BR city and parish 8 ways from Sunday. It caused the middle class to abandon public schools. It caused the failure of the public schools. It caused the flight to get away from the failing schools. It caused the decline in property values in much of the parish. It enabled the race baiters to take control of the city parish government.

Broome's election basically sealed the deal....Two days into office she was out to fire the police commissioner even though she didn't have the authority to do so and had her team of progressives put out a binder on acknowledging white privilege, not exactly stuff to unite the community. That pushed over those that were on the fence regarding St. George the first go round.

Congrats to all on St. George!

There shouldn't be a pothole or a burned out streetlight in the whole damn town.

Gardere residents indicated by not signing the first petition that they wanted no part of St. George. Why didn't BR annex them on their crusade to annex LSU and the casino? Now THAT looks bad.

The “city-parish” concept needs to be scrapped.
I love the idea of a city-parish, but the practical implementation is where it goes off the rails.
It should provide economies of scale, and if built that way from the ground up, it would. However, when you are independent and then consolidate, no department seems willing to cut. You get the same overhead, screwy services, and nothing but bitching - understandably so.

My grandma would take us to that Albertsons to buy candy then go to the movies at Broadmoore. I remember watching Top Gun there. Good times.

Not every street is a city street.

The book store in that shopping center was great, a guy named BJ ran a comic book/sports card store out of there. Grandma would bring us all of the time and he’d give us a bunch of free shite. Probably because we also bought a lot of shite

We would ride our bikes there daily during the summer to get candy or rent a movie. Good times.

But did they go down? That's the part I find comical.

Tara has made a big comeback too
Tara never fell to need a comeback
Tara is centrally located. You can get damn near anywhere in BR quick af (comparatively speaking). Tara is in its 3rd-4th gen ownership and still running like it’s brand new.
Now, the school went to shite but that’s a different story and reason entirely

That ship has sailed. StG can see victory on the horizon. Why would they settle now, after being called horrible people, racist, etc? After all the bullshite city proper has pulled, StG should give no quarter. Take the full victory and take the ball home.
Let the cards fall as they will.

Bingo.
This never needed to happen but there were elements in the city and state governments who felt the need to try and swat this down to protect their own turf.
Which, ironically, ended up making it happen because people were determined and those same pols kept fricking up BADLY on multiple levels.
