Currently the Basis school on Stumberg has funding with BR and only accepts kids in that region.

Now that school falls in St George. How does that change?

i'm guessing both BR and St George will be under EBR parish and nothing changes

Irrelevant for the second because St George has yet to be officially passed into law despite winning the vote.

Even when the incorporation goes through, my guess is it is still irrelevant until the ISD splits from EBRPSS.

Currently, nothing changes. There are still 3 more votes before anything could change.

We needed one more St. George thread to address this issue.

Correct. St George doesn’t have its own school district and won’t for several years, if ever.

The new thing everyone who goes there talks about constantly.

Nothing changes. A St. George ISD has to win the legislature, the state, and all of ebr which will is not a given especially with only 54% support sat.

If st. George isd happens, it will be up to their board to approve BASIS south. If they don't, they have to close, move within EBRPSS, or get a state charter.

From the ads I heard you need to immediately remove your kids from there or any BR magnet school.

This. Threads like this and people who cannot grasp this concept despite it being repeated over and over again are the main reason why it was "only" 54%. Remember folks, their votes count just as much as yours

I get the only 54% voting for the city, but find it hard to believe that there aren’t more people in St. George that will not vote for the schools now that there is a city. I get that Baton Rouge will run a negative campaign about taxes which will probably scare a lot of the old people who won’t look anywhere other than the newspaper and their mailboxes, but what kind of person votes against having good schools that are the anchor of your community.

I see there being a surge in support greater than the 54% Saturday, but also know it will take a lot of work. As far as the rest of the Parish goes I hope that Zachary and Central help prop us up and the rest of Baton Rouge is too apathetic about it to vote.

So let me ask. What makes everyone think if it gets its own school district all of the sudden it is going to be a great school district?

Children from homes that actually care about education and are brought up with some semblance of stability.

At first there might not be a lot of movement over from private schools for higher grades because people will be scared of just diving in without testing the water. What you’ll see is more students from these types of homes starting their school career in the ISD and finishing in the system.

It won’t happen overnight, but it will be significantly better than the status quo from day one, and will continue to get better over the years as those younger enrollees continue to have larger classes starting in PreK coming behind them.

While certainly not automatic, past history seems to indicate it's possible since both Zachary and Central left the EBRPSS and almost immediately had highly ranked school districts (particularly when compared to EBR). Plus, it's not like the school district can get much worse. Why not let the people of St. George take a swing at trying to improve upon something that hasn't been great for decades and is showing no signs of potential significant improvement?

When/if that vote ever happens, all of EBR will vote. So, I would assume most/all of the city of BR residents will vote against the ISD, mainly out of spite.
