When we were kids they had a guy guard the mansion. He stayed in a trailer on the premises. Shot at us several times (with a pellet gun) when we would try to get into the mansion to scare us off. When we did get in there was nothing inside from what we could tell.

there were always rumors that the place was haunted.
in high school we tried to sneak into it. we got about 20 ft from the front door and a light came on inside. we hauled arse.

Here's a STORY that was posted here a few years back.
It's a long read but worth it.
I remember reading an article about the same time the article was posted that said that St. Bernard Parish was the #2 "Opiod Capital" of the U.S. on a per capita basis. From what I've heard from a good friend who is a deputy sheriff down there, it's also very high on the list for Meth as well.

Yeah I tried getting in there as well. Cops pulled up so a few of us hauled add the other way and jumped the fence in the back. Good times.

I read an article a few years ago discussing the Mereaux interests as well as the the Perez family in neighboring Plaquemines parish. The Perez family had their illegal and corrupt deals come to light already, but there wasn't much more out there about the Mereaux deal. A lot of corruption from yesteryear in those parishes was the conclusion.

you're a heroin addict dude. You have no room to talk shite on someone that's a productive member of society just because they're interested in conspiracies.

Lot of history here, most of it pretty shady. But in recent years, they have cleaned up their act. Some new board members, etc. Still own a metric frickton of land in St Bernard and Orleans. But they have given away a lot of land and cash.
Now, they are also involved in the proposed container port deal, and if that happens, a lot of the goodwill they have built up recently will go away. The locals want nothing to do with this.

Most of the cocaine in Louisiana from Colombia in the 70s & 80's came in through Hopedale where Breton Sound Marina currently sits. BSL now leases the land from the Meraux Foundation.

Ive heard that before. Hard to believe that happens without a complicit police force.
