Flight is only 3 hours and it is $300 cheaper to go with spirit. What can I do to avoid all the crazy fees?

Never flown Spirit but seems like everyone on TD who has, has had a miserable experience.

When they fuel up the plane, you'll have to throw in a croaker or two.

Ala Carte, and carry on baggage fees. Still cheaper probably. No frills.

Pay for the bigger seat up front as to minimize the torture. For their prices with those big seats it can't be that bad

Spirit is fine if you have little if any luggage. I used it to fly to Dallas to visit some friends over a couple of weekend and it was fine. I only had a backpack as my luggage and printed out my boarding pass at home.

They do nickel and dime you, but it won't add up to $300.

I'd rather fly Southwest or another airline, but that sounds a like a good deal. I'd also rather fly Spirit than have to make a connection with a different airline.

Backpacks are free. They have a luggage measuring device at the gate and you can stuff a backpack in there. Its good for short flights

A friend of mine used to do that whenever he flew Spirit to Costa Rica.

Just know what you're getting into before hand. I've flown with Spirit numerous times with no issues whatsoever.

-print out your ticket beforehand
-you are allowed a free personal item which can be like a backpack. There was a luggage bag from Costco that I use as my personal item and I was able to fit everything I needed in it so I have never paid for baggage.
-if you want a specific seat, it'll be extra. I always choose the exit row so it's $25 extra each way
- if you want any drinks or food on board it'll be extra. Always bring my own drinks and food anyway so that's not a big issue to me

What? Booksack counts as something that tucks under a seat unless you fill the damn thing up.

I flew with Spirit from NEW Orleans to Ft. Lauderdale and back in October. Overall wasn't a bad experience, but they do nickel and dime you for every little thing.
