For the states that I've been to, my vote goes to Mississippi, at least north of I-10. The beaches are pretty nice, but other than that, nothing.

The Ms Gulf Coast is a great place to live for adults.
Great fishing
Pretty Laid Back
Plenty of beautiful areas
Beaches are nice, water isn't
Tons of great locally owned restaurants.
Lots of places for adult activities, bars and casinos.
Lots of festivals.
The rest of the state is good for deer hunting and some pretty good High School but that is all I got.

I live in Kansas, and it's up there as the worst. Especially western, ks. It used to be nice small farming communities scattered around. Now with no kids moving back, it's Big farming operations with Hispanics hired on as hands. So most of the small towns are starting to look like mexico and schools are turning to shite.

California definitely has the most diverse topography, but I'd throw Alaska in at number two. Oregon and Washington are in there as well.
I question anyone who mentions California as the worst Stat and they need to realize the California experience is extremely diverse and Living in Northern Cal (S.F. not included) is much different than living in Southern Cal or much of the Central Valley.

Greenville and Clarksdale are like driving through Mogadishu. People are still living in lean to shacks in parts of those towns, not even joking.
