Because of Los Angeles... but the rest of the state is pretty nice from my experiences.

I guess the valley isn't really 'nice' but you know what I mean.

People who sit at home watching Fox news 24/7 and never travel tend to rank California as "the worst state" I've noticed.

West Virginia gets some points on how beautiful some of the area is and the white water rafting.

But yeah it's depressing to drive through

Arkansas and Missouri are the worst I have been to. I can't imagine what Iowa, Neb, and South Dekota would be like. Miserable.

The difference in trashiness when you cross from California to Nevada in Tahoe is insane.....like two different places

Errr, don't you live in Baton Rouge. Baton rouge is a fricking armpit.

Los Angeles is a really cool city. yes traffic sucks, yes its filled with d-bags. But I have a lot of fun when I visit LA. I cannot say the same thing about my last trip to BR.

Cali for legislative, environmental and political reasons. I've been and don't plan to go back, not my type of people. Alaska shits on their scenery.
Louisiana is up there on worst due to our corruption but the people and culture can't be beat. Seriously, the people can't be friendlier, and I've lived all over the country.

This thread has been done time and time again. A number of the folks who say "California" have openly admitted that they never have been there.

Yeah you can hate on politics all you want....Cali still offers a pretty wide variety of beautiful scenery to make any person happy. Name another state that offers that much variety in scenery?

Those saying Cali for political reasons need to go to San Diego

I think you forgot a question mark there... but yes.

I just don't like LA. I like central coast wine country, I like the Sierra Nevadas, I like Santa Barbara. The Channel Islands are cool, I enjoyed San Diego when I was young... I just don't care for LA.

If I'm going to California, hopefully the only time I spend in LA is to and from the airport.

Arkansas doesn't have a lot but my goodness it's a gorgeous state.

People don't really understand how bad Mississippi is from even an aesthetic standpoint.

We are sandwiched between the Mississippi River and the old Appalachian Mountain Range. Because of this, our topography is relatively flat. It's not very pretty to look at, at all.

And, because of Mobile Bay and the current, we get all the brackish water flowing westward. The water is also very shallow. So, it looks like absolute shite.

LA gets a bad wrap because it's an easy target. Personally, I like Northern CA more than the southern CA.
