I've been to over 40 states, and lived in 7. AL, OHx3, SC, VAx2, OK, TN, and ND. I've also spent extensive time in PA, Ind, WA, NC, and Or because of family.
frick Ohio, it freaking sucks. Downtown Cincy is OK, but it can't make up for the rest of that miserable state.
Iowa is pretty bad too.
ND has nothing but two cities and oil fields, but its a beautiful state, so that makes up for it.

There is a difference between visiting a place and living there.
Every state will have a place worth visiting. But living there is a different story. California is a miserable place to live. Give me Mississippi any day of the week.

As a California resident, I'll be the first to admit that the state is pretty overrated and has plenty of problems. But worse than southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas? Preposterous. There are literally thousands of objective measures that could back that statement up, but it is so strikingly obvious that there's really no need.

The 3 West coast states pretty much have everything. Not many can say that.

Vicksburg and Natchez are pretty cool.

My parents made me make the drive to MS last time I visited LA to go eat at the damn Dinner Bell in McComb. I felt like I time traveled to the 1930s. And was upset I couldn't even find a Starbucks nearby.
I drove over an hour....to Mississippi...to eat lunch to make my parents happy. I thought my parents were joking when they suggested the place...then realized they were quite serious

And I agree...the pacific NW seems pretty amazing. My husband fell in love with Bend, Oregon and wants us to go back. We would move to any one of those 3 states in a heartbeat if our jobs would allow it.
