Only if trip is longer than 7 nights. Between a roller board and backpack I’m all set.

I don’t take chances with those savages below the plane.

I've had two bags not arrive when they were supposed to in about 1MM of flying. One of those was when I changed from IAH to BRU to IAH to AMS after boarding because of a delay in departure, and the other was when I flew UA, TK, and then Etihad (one of these things is not like the other) after getting stranded in Istanbul overnight. Other than that, never a lost or even a delayed bag.

Almost always check now a days. Most trips I take are usually several days to a week.

I get "free" check bags via CC.
It is quite nice to not have to worry about overhead space, not have to drag the carry on every where, go through tsa with it etc. Very freeing .

At least the places I go, I never have to wait that long for the luggage to come out.

Disclaimer: I've had delayed/mishandled luggage two times. Once was on a trip to Antigua. This one was understandable. We did a flight change to an earlier flight due to weather. Bags arrived the following day.

Second time, one of our bags didn't make it despite a fairly lengthy layover and everything else did. It was delivered to our doorsteps a few hours later.

is there a more efficient way we can fly with luggage?

Absolutely there is. Private charter, or private jet...

By myself no. If the wife and daughter are along yes, checked bags, carry-ons, personal bags....they have them all. We fly Southwest a lot because they allow 2 checked bags.

When its just me or me and my son, who is 25, neither of us check a bag, We spent a long weekend at Braves spring training last season and had everything in his backpack. Had the wife and daughter been along we'd have spent more on bags and handling bags than the trip cost LOL...

Ideal trip for me is I only have carryon. Much faster leaving the airport on arrival. Also, no chance for the airline to lose my stuff although with tracking these days it seems less likely of happening.

Ideal is to arrive with a carry-on and at the gate they ask if anyone wants to check bags with gate side pickup. Thats the best of both worlds....let the animals fight over the overhead space and grab your bag at the foot of the jetway....

When I used to travel for work I always would. Just didn't feel like taking the bag with me everywhere especially if I had 1 or 2 layovers. Going to the Bahamas soon, but I'm not checking a bag.

If I can avoid it, no. Usually travel with a Peak bag. Amazing what I can get into that thing.

If I'm flying for work...yes. Mainly because they pay for me to check one bag and it's just easier. I'm going to be walking right by the luggage carrousel to go pick up my rental car in 75% of the airports, anyway...

Yes.

I hate the carry on nonsense. I wish the airlines would do away with carry on.

I wish airlines would make the overheads smaller or charge for carryons instead of checked bags. The boarding and unboarding process is excruciating.

I usually don’t check bags if I can avoid it. Even on SWA I did the current trip I’m on because I brought a bottle of Blantons to drink with a client and my boss. Plus the client brought a bottle of Pappys for me as a thank you that I’m taking home.

I try to check unless running late. Typically try to bring a book and my phone and that's it. Flew last week and checked on both flights. Short direct flights. I wait to exit the plane last. Got to baggage claim and my bag was right there.
