It’s a decent city? Alabama is quickly becoming God’s State.

Yes, trust the guy that stayed in Bham a night or two 2 months ago that there's noting going on in Bham. Just ignore all the posters that live here. They don't know what they're talking about.

Interesting factoid about bham. It didn’t exist during the civil war so it misses some of that old south charm that people like (or hate) about the south.

Imo, mountain brook is the place to be tho

Downtown Birmingham and areas north aren’t the best places to raise a family, but the neighborhoods in Hoover and Shelby county by the folds of oak mountain are gorgeous. I grew up in Brook Highland subdivision, and if this was in Louisiana, it’d be the nicest neighborhood in the entire state of Louisiana. The amount of white, upper class housing is so expansive. Felt very safe living where I did. In addition, mountain brook and highland park are also very pretty but the housing is a bit older.

Weather is good and fall color in October is amazing. Still hot most of the summer, but there is enough seasonality for fall, snow in winter, and beautiful springs. Its proximity to Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, Smokeys, and Destin make reasonable road trips

It's hard to make the roads out in this map, but pretty much any place in the red are decent homes, lower crime, whereas the blue is much higher crime and generally shittier homes that have gone to waste.

Downtown is the central clear area with no dots that's right on the blue/red line and the clear areas just to the north and east is the airport.
Other notable gaps to help orient yourself is the clear area to the SSE is Oak Mountain State Park.
Hoover area near the Galleria is that mixed red/blue area in the center of the page.

North Shelby County is where it’s at. Close enough to enjoy the city amenities. Far enough away from the culcha.
