I’ve updated the rankings as of 17 AUG 2019...

Huntsville>Austin>Birmingham>Dallas>BR>Natchitoches at Christmas>NOLA>Lake Charles

(Major City also includes surrounding metro area. Ratings based on quality of life, cost of living, crime, and sustainability)

Birmingham is a generic Southern city with some nice suburbs. It's not much different than Little Rock, BR, Mobile etc. Nola is a far better city than Birmingham.

Any city that makes regular appearances on the First 48 should be avoided...

Bham is a shitshow except UAB’s campus is pretty nice and all the areas around Bham are nice.

But Bham proper is the biggest shite hole in the South. There’s nothing going on in that city.

Might have been true a decade ago, but no longer the case.

We have at least a few things going on in the city.

I was just there 2 months ago and stayed downtown at the Hilton. Trust me, there’s nothing going on in Bham

I’ve heard good things about BHam, but every time I go there it seems like a shithole.

My wife grew up there. I've spent a few weeks in Birmingham every year for the past 15 years. They've had some gentrification downtown and some of the suburbs are nice. They have a few good restaurants. Other than that it's nothing special.

A couple a decent restaurants, they do have a Top Golf, I did say the outside of BHam has some nice areas and UAB has a nice campus.

Other than that, it’s a shithole.

But their 4-5 super 6A public schools in the area have nicer campus’s than anything you’ll see in Louisiana.

Gotta give that to them.

Nice place if you like golf

Some good courses, including a couple RTJ course, a top golf, and the rare pga superstore

Other than that and some decent eats and scenery it’s pretty much suburbia with a sprinkling of city life

It gets a weird amount of love on here that I've never understood.
