Yea it's still there according to Google Earth but I'm guessing it might be going away if their intention is to build a port facility there.

As a fellow Milton resident, I sure hope so.

Correct. Louisiana politicians could f up a wet dream, so I’m cautiously optimistic but hopeful.

I’ve been to several launches at Cape Canaveral.
People have no idea how this is going to affect the local economy-roads, schools, hospitals are going to benefit bigly.
Governor Landry is going to coast to reelection.

Some additional renderings. Place is going to be so sweet

We have shitty tank farms that take up more footprint and are left to rot into the earth. A project that will sling around so many billions to have such a small amount of dirt used is pretty amazing. Concentrated awesome

I'm guessing this means the I-49 extension is about to go full throttle? Or are we going to see an I-410 loop through Acadiana bypassing Lafayette?
And Baton Rouge will still not get a loop

my mom is a retired vermillion teacher. That school board needs money. They've struggled with insurance costs in recent years. If this shores up that school system alone, it's a huge win

This would not only shore up Vermillion, but all surrounding schools systems as well I would imagine.

Maybe with the extra taxes coming in, but I doubt it’ll be prioritized because of SpaceX

Yeah it’ll probably end up being the busiest spaceport on the planet. Boca Chica is primarily a research and development site.

I’m in the Lafayette area for work and erybody here is saying space X is gonna build much more than just a launch pad. They’re building a whole arse city. It’ll be even bigger than starbase, TX.
I believe that at the press conference they said they were building 8 pads. That's going to be so much construction the places to provide for the workers (living, food, etc) is going to be its own city.
I'm wondering how extensive the build is going to be. How deep are they going to have to drive foundation supports so the buildings don't sink into the ground every few years? Will they be using some derivation of Roman concrete to make the wet conditions work for them? How high are they building to compensate for potential storm surges? etc.

Waiting for that first SpaceX check to go into my wife’s paystub
I am guessing Vermilion Parish teachers will be amongst the highest paid in the state

The amount of idiotic Facebook comments shouldn't surprise me.
- This is going to ruin the environment!
(this is the low-hanging fruit uninformed knee-jerk response)
- Every ill of the state needs to be addressed before this project
(where do you think money to do projects comes from?)
- They didn't let us vote on it
(since when do you vote on every project a company undertakes?)
Just annoying. I know we can screw lots of shite up, but this finally feels like something hugely positive for the state. State changing huge.
