This would solve so many problems. I think we can all agree that the deboarding process as it currently exists is about as efficient as trying to put toothpaste back in the tube.

SWA the airline of miracles. Roll up to the gate board first then healed somewhere on the flight and walk off. The were once a great option but now just a greyhound bus.

I was recently looking to book an international flight for my family. I was surprised that all of the major airlines were now charging ~$150 to check a bag for an international flight. On top of that, you can't pick your seats when purchasing main seats. You have to pay for an upgrade seat which was around $250 per person more in order to pick your seats. Overall, it added around $2K for the flight. It feels like the fee-based discount airline model has won.

It won because they all do it there is no other option.

Wtf airline are you looking at? Delta gave multiple free checked bags and no upcharge on picking non-premium seating. And I was a simple economy passenger with no status.
Edit: After thinking, you were probably looking at the cheapest "basic" fare that airlines offer now.

He was probably picking the absolute lowest fare. I've had to pay for seat selection on LH as a *A Gold, but now that I have no status, I have five different economy fares to choose from which include seat selection and other stuff, including checked bags and priority security in the higher economy fares.
I bet he's looking via CrapPedia, TravelAtrocity, Costco or another third party booker, not an airline's direct website.

Ah yes, the best way to get bumped from an overbooked flight, use a third party site.

That sucks. I only fly southwest and I never even compare other prices. I guess that won’t happen anymore and I will begin booking the cheapest ticket I can find.
I have a flight booked for June that was booked before this announcement. I hope they don’t charge for people that booked flights before this going public, that’s a bait and switch if they do.

here is my decision tree on flights
1) direct flight if available
2) early morning or late evening
3) price
currently spirit most often meets those criteria. And their “big seat” option is the best bang for the buck in the industry right now

Southwest sucks and they’re taking one of the 1-2 things they do well
they are trying to become more competitive probably. They are super expensive. maybe they will lower ticket prices and charge for baggage instead of trying to hide the cost of baggage in every ticket.

Need to pay to upgrade the Windows 98 system they’re using

They've been relying on people like you for almost ten years.

Well worth it if it comes with them getting rid of their insane boarding process. I may actually consider flying Southwest now
Posted on 3/11/25 at 8:38 am to jlovel7
I wish they’d charge for carry ons instead of checked bags.

The smoothest in the business and the only one that doesn't jack up the middle of the terminal with people standing around waiting in lines that they shouldn't even be in.
