Hooray for plus-sized passengers

quote:

Low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines is being celebrated by "passengers of size" on TikTok after they discovered they can request complimentary seats – one or two, depending on needs – to accommodate their girth.

Customers whose bodies "encroach" past the armrest are entitled to an extra seat, according to Southwest's inclusion policy. They are currently one of the few, if not the only, airlines to offer free seats to larger passengers.

What is stopping a normal size person like me requesting a complementary seat for me and my whole family?

Conflicted on this. Good that you will no longer have the fatty's blubber touching you for an entire flight. Bad that it's setting a standard that being fat is perfectly acceptable

10 years ago I thought Southwest was an excellent company that would really drive change in the airline industry. Now they seem to be shitting the bed more often than Delta.

I'm pretty big and I can fit in a seat. You must be fricking massive if you need two seats.

If she gets a free seat, do I get a pass if my bag is a bit over 50lbs?

I'm plus size in height, leg length, and shoulder width but have no issues fastening a seat belt. I spill over into other seats simply because my shoulders are wider.

Do I get to board early and get an extra seat, too?

If they can do this for fatsos, why can't they reserve the exit rows for tall people?

Weird. Some posters on the Aggie board claim that you shouldn't worry about having a large package.

It is open seating... how does this work? If i walk by someone that big, i am choosing not to sit next to them. Do they just sell one less ticket on the plane?

My wife and I are one body and one soul. We should be able to pay for one seat.

Especially since we weigh less than the brave and stunning TikTok influencer.
