Getting an engineering job isn't a guarantee. It is a lot easier in south LA when the oilfield is in fire. But in general, its easier than getting a job with let's say a business degree. Plus you dont have to have an "engineering" job. I worked in am engineering role for about a year before transitioning into operational roles. Still needed my technical abilities. They'll hire you for stuff just because you they know you made it through a rigorous degree program.
Now, there are lots of people with engineering degrees who have the worst personality in the world. Doesnt matter if you are the smartest person ever. If people cant work with you, you womt make it anywhere.

Might want to look into an engineering sales position, probably inside since you won't have the experience or contacts for outside sales. These type jobs can pay very well and whether the prices of oil and gas are up or down, companies still need to buy and have serviced rotating equipment.

That business degree might find a job but it will be for $12 an hour

To be honest I didn't know either until a good friend told me. Later I did more research on it prior to graduation.
I had another plan, but I realized that my heart was into EE. And I refused to stay at my current location

parents work at southern, it has a bad reputation for a reason. good English, nursing, law tho

Honestly, the same material is taught at all accredited schools. If you want to challenge yourself, you can. If you want to coast, you can. Your internships and how much effort you put into school will reflect how qualified you are when you finish.
Be prepared for more math than you can imagine. EE sucks

Math was never my issue (hence the Physics BS, which is the original Applied Math degree). My issue was just how EE was taught. A few people I know struggled with EE at my school.
Now I feel much more confident that I will earn my EE degree.
The Best part is that no one can take it from me. And that's an encouraging remark for anybody.
