FWIW, I was in your exact same position once. Got a BS in physics... applied and accepted to LSU Civil engineering. But timing and other things came up. I got a teaching job for a few years, then starting trying to get in at places like Exxon who might even help pay for my graduate degree.
I ended up in a computer science-type job which was a little out of my wheelhouse, but the right person saw my potential. Point being, you just have to put yourself out there as often as you can. If you're a hard worker and show true potential, the physics degree alone will get you far.

Let me give you some white person advice because you seem like a good kid and a very hard worker. Don't use those sites, use connections you have made and team up with the richest person you can connect with. Also, remember that it is WAY easier to get a job with a high starting salary than negotiate raises once you are working for a company. Don't just jump at the first job you get offered, hold out and use ANY connections you have to get the job you want.

That is not a very polite thing to say. When I was on LinkedIn recently I saw SU graduates working a Shell and NavSea. There were other engineering companies as well that hired SU graduates.
Its a pretty good school from the classes I have taken so far. Try not to be so negative about it.

No doubt. I wish I needed an employee because the OP seems like a hard worker that wants to give his services away for below his true market value. If he doesn't know people where he lives he should head to L.A. or NYC and let his talent get him the job he wants.

I dont see how I am wasting time. I am learning engineering concepts at SU that are very applicable. Heres another way to look at it, when employers see my resume they will see La Tech and Southern. I am not afraid on taking on a different school.

Based on the first paragraph of your original post you will be fine. Don't take this as "racist" but the fact you are black and have pursued those degrees show how ambitious you are and the right employer will see that and pay you accordingly.

I really do appreciate your compliment, but it will be very difficult to get a job with just a Physics BS. It is possible and their are other avenues I could take other than engineering.
However, I have a passion for engineering which is why I am focusing on completing my MS in EE. I just want to be more marketable. I have even considered getting some programming certifications (may start after I finish this program).
In case I was not clear, I am already enrolled and technically will be finished by Spring 2016

Finish your degree, intern for free at the best firm/company that you can and eveything will work out. If you can move to L.A, NYC, San Fran, Chicago etc for the first five or so years of your career it will make all of the difference in the world in the long run.
ETA: I had assumed you were talking about getting a job once you had finished your degree at Southern. Intern in a big city for a huge company before you even think about taking a job, those few months will be just as important as all of your schooling going forward.

I dont know what TSA means
Also I figured Disney was on there as a reference to there Imagineering program or possibly working with devices on thier theme park rides.
But then again, I could be missing the point. In general it seems those business sectors only hire for low-key positions unless you move up the ladder.

Those cities have excellent jobs at very interesting companies. I would love to work there if given the opportunity. But I realize how competitive those hot spots are for new graduates. thats why I am looking in and around the state of Louisiana (Texas, Arkansas, etc) for a small time job like you mentioned.
It would be so cool to work as a Process Engineer or an Engineering Tech (it may sound sad, but hey ill take what I can get).

All I can tell you is don't sell yourself short. Just up and move to a huge city and go from there, I PROMISE you that when you are 30 you won't look back at the decision and regret it. Good luck!

I know there are various facts and opinions on the matter. To be honest your one of the more positive people (check on Physics Forum and you will see what I mean). There are options for Physics BS, but no direct line of employment and the standard purpose of the degree is to pursue PhD in some branch of Physics.
Granted there is always actuarial work and other technical type jobs with programming/software. Possible to train as a nuclear operator.
I dont usually mention the education route because
a)if you wanted to do that you could have gotten a BS Physics Education with a lighter course load
b)In most cases an education major has the direct qualifications to get the job anyway
c) lousy pay
