I hope not Oak Grove, the portal to tornado hell.

11:50 pm: Jefferson County -- A severe thunderstorm is affecting the western portion of the county and is headed for the metro area. This storm is producing rotation near North Johns (as of the time of this post) but it hasn't been able to organize enough for 1/2

a tornado/for us to issue a tornado warning. Keep tabs on this storm and move to a safe place as there could be strong straight-line winds! 2/2

Doesn’t look like this storm will produce a tornado as of now, but there will definitely be some strong winds moving through the Birmingham metro.

Reports of trees down in the Vestavia Hills area in the southern Bham metro.

That was quite a storm.

On of the more intense storms I’ve seen come through the Birmingham Over The Mountain area in years. Straight line winds, trees down everywhere, hail, no power. Sounded like a jet engine outside.

Get to fly over that in a few hours. Can’t wait!

Yeah, looks like there is a lot of damage, especially downed trees, in the Homewood/Mountain Brook/Vestavia areas.

Seems like there’s at least one of these every year when a front moves through.
Yep. The system a couple of years ago that produced a strong tornado that hit a similar area of Nashville and the Campellsville, KY F4 tornado were in early December.
Tuscaloosa was hit by an F4 tornado as strong as the infamous 04/27/11 F4 on December 16, 2000. The only difference with that one was it hit the Shelton State Hillcrest area about 6 or 7 miles south of the April 27th tornado. That December tornado killed 11 people. It went from the mid 70s that day 12/16/00 to low 20s and a dusting of snow the following morning

It was two years ago today that this monster rolled through four states:
I hope Pisco and the other folks in Mayfield and surrounding areas are doing well today. Hopefully the rebuild is coming along, and this can be a more "normal" Christmas for those who lost everything to that storm.
ETA: Mayfield, KY was an EF5. I don't care what anyone says.

You're correct. I meant to say Mayfield, KY. That one was arguably the strongest and most impressive long track December tornadoes in U.S. history both for its strength and path length

A tornado just rolled through the south side of Raleigh, NC. It went through the Garner area.
