Live square in the middle of that purple in kansas. hoping hard for enough ice to cancel schools. My paternity starts wednesday so having the extra day before would be quite nice.

grew up In Mobile and lived in Silverhill for a time - was amazing growing up all the times we had spinup tornados. had one hit a group of houses 3 blocks away from my house, hopped us and touched down a 1/2 mile up the road.

come to think of it - have had 4 or 5 hop my old apartment complex here in Bham the last 20 or so years, and the one that hit Spanns house was about a mile from my apartment.

shite maybe im a magnet

We closed early to go home to remote. I went in, most of my coworkers just remoted starting out. Last time this happened, it was nothing. And one time a storm at night with tornados. Twice, actually. I guess we just never know and it’s best to be safe. The CBD is a fishbowl, the surrounding areas.

Damn skippy I will. Let's see, where are we at now with the forecasts?

as he should.

The overeaction by schools and what not to this is ridiculous.
Would it have been so hard for everyone to say "this is what we are prepared to do if the weather situation is as predicted, and we will make that call at ____O'clock."

Instead lets cancel schools and let's not have basketball practice or games either.

We've done this several times recently, and it turns into nothing. I"m not saying do nothing, just stop making these stupid arse decisions this far in advance. Weather is unpredictable. Have a plan to implement in due time. 24 hours is way too much time. this ain't a hurricane. No one is evacuating. 2 hours is more than enough time, especially if you already said what the plan was going to be.

These planned hurricane/weather days off are stupid. If we don't have a hurricane then it's like they have to find a reason to use those planned days off somewhere else.

I'm calling it, in another couple of hours it'll be downgraded to an inch of rainfall for the day.
I’m like 20 miles from the city and already have over an inch, but yeah you show em!

To get 2,000 students a ride home and off a campus safely? Not realistic. And what happens when they forecast is wrong in the opposite way. What if the weather ends up worse and you have 10,000 students in say ascension parish trying to find a way home or on busses during a tornado imagine the shite storm from the parents then

you can't read or something?

Make a plan.
Say when you'll decide if that plan goes into affect. You can have several different planned updates.
2-4 hours before weather starts, make decision.

Starting to see surface winds shite out of the south from west to east now, driving dews up in SW LA. That trend will continue.

Radar isn't as crowded now as modeled. Tornado watch is up from West of Houston to just east of Laffy. Will last for 7.5 hours.

Yup... we retired and moved down from W of Atlanta...

Least if I need to sit up most of the night to ease my wife's worries, I'll sip a lil bourbon, sit with the mutt in my lap, have Fox10 on mute and read this thread...

We are on the weaker end of this thing and it's incredibly intense. I can't imagine what the bad parts are getting.

This is how it has to be played.
Back around 2017-18 I was working up the river close to Gonzales. We got one of those days where I think the risk was even a step up higher than today. Never seen a risk like that this far south.
I company released us at 11:30AM. As I was driving across the spillway the phone and radio blasted with a tornado warning. Nothing came of it, but kind of a shitty feeling when the warning goes off like that and they are saying a funnel was spotted near the area and you are stuck on a bridge.

Later that day a pretty rough tornado went through La Place and crossed the interstate.
Three other tornados touched down that night between La Place and Gonzales.
So yeah, you just never know.
