As you describe it sounds the same but it ain't. One is flight and the other requires travel into space with the use of missiles. Today the former is expensive and the latter much more expensive.

Aviation took off (lol) after the Roswell Incident.

It’s cause we stole that alien technology.

So I take it you have no grasp on the insane innovation and complexity of today's planes.

That was a seriously dumb post.

If you had told me we'd be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and we weren't riding in these...

The 2nd 50 years has had far more advancements than the first 50.

From Wright Brothers to B-29 is still pretty basic.

Jet engines, supersonic, supercruise, stealth, fly-by-wire, auto-pilot, autolanding, materials, size, ranges, in-flight refueling, in-flight wifi, etc.

I know what you're trying to say, but once you get so advanced, it takes much much more innovation to take tiny steps foward. Not to mention the cost.

Think of like an F1 racecar. They are much faster than 50 years ago. But say 20 years ago, someone found a way to take 2 seconds off their lap time. Big jump. Nowadays, people are coming up with innovative ways to shave .2 seconds or less off of a lap time. Not much in the grand scheme, but considered highly innovative and a game changer in today's race world.

Idk man we have planes that are stealth and invisible on radars, you have planes taking off vertically, we have hybrid planes that can be either a plane or helicopter, we have a manned space station orbiting the earth, satellites that have greatly affected our lives, SpaceX has rockets that are available to return back. I’d say we have advanced a lot. I mean come on, look at the difference between a b-29 and the B-2 spirit. We can literally whip out an entire country with just one bomb and they would never know when it even happened.

When you think about it any kind of space travel with the tech they had is also amazing.

I'd like to read about the history of airports, as well.

Whoever planned DFW "out in the middle of nowhere" was brilliant and I believe it has space for 5 more terminals.

too bad Atlanta didn't do that or they would have the second airport like Chicago and DFW and Houston do

That was the concord which first flew in 1969 and has now been retired for 16 years. What other supersonic commercial airliners are operational today?

None, but that’s an economic issue, not a technology issue. There simply isn’t a market for it.

That’s where you’re wrong. It is a technology issue because they’ve not developed the technology to make supersonic commercial economically viable.

Jet engines have been around since the 1930s, supersonic flight since the 1950s, supersonic cruising also the 1950s, in flight refueling dates to the 1920s.

True, but I have to give a nod to the japs as well. The Zeros were no joke. Perhaps inferior in construction to the German planes but their pilots were no slouches either.

It wasn’t meant to be taken literally. It was to point out the level of advancement in the first 50 years of flight dwarfs those of the last 50.

No they haven't.

The oldest one on there, the B2, went into service in 1997.

The Zero was an all or nothing fighter. It surrendered things like armor and self-sealing fuel tanks to make it as nimble as possible.

Supersonic travel isn’t viable because we don’t want sonic booms everywhere
