If anyone is curious, these places make "crumb rubber" which is used on playgrounds, tracks (like T&F), building materials, insulation, road construction, etc. On some turf fields, that is rubber pellet material that is kicked up.

It is a great way to recycle scrap tires and there is a growing demand for it.

And for fuel to make clinker...thanks to texag.

Seems like a great business!

Suggest locating it in St. George. That'll probably change their mind.

Maybe Gary should have gone out more in the district he ran for and lost. Specifically the dumping grounds for tires, mattresses, box springs, even a deer carcass a couple of weeks ago down Heck Young Rd/Old Baker Rd intersection area. There are plenty of tires on the side of the road and in the ditches to be shredded. Hell, there is a EBR DPW on Hwy 19 that has a gate on the back of their property/Old Baker Rd. I called 311 multiple times about 15-20 tires in the ditch and it took them months to pick them up, after multiple calls.

Aren't the tires currently being dumped on the side of the road at various places in her district? Suck it. They get the shredder.

SO making it easier to pick up and shred abandoned tires that harbor disease carrying mosquitoes, look like crap, get dumped illegally - plus add jobs and help clean up the area - this is a bad thing? What a jackass.

I can't believe Texas lost out on this business. I suppose EBR will have a really good year.

How about a compromise, put it in each district until all abandoned tires are shredded in each district.

This isn't a mobile sort of shredder/granulator. Whenever you get a new set of tires, you are already charged a disposal fee. Retail tire stores are the main collection points for old tires

Everything north of Florida Blvd looks like a bombed out warzone, but they're going to bitch about a tire shredding plant located out by the airport.

I assume this will be out near the parish prison? It's not exactly a scenic area to begin with

If they can’t shoot at or rob it, they don’t want it.

What's even funnier about this is the actual representative for the district Chauna Banks is the one who initially had the problem with this. Gravy stealing her thunder.

It's a solution for people who have been complaining in her district and of course she comes out against it like it's some racis thing.

She had some quote about not being used to having "black" people disagree with her. I thought that was pretty sad and telling too.

LINK

After a number of black residents expressed support for the measure, Banks said: "This is a new twist; we've never had blacks fight against us."
