I think most states specify the allowable deposit requirement. Typically 50% or 33%. I don't think craftsmen are supposed to deviate from that, though I'm not sure what the enforcement mechanism is.
We had a deck torn down and a new covered/screened porch built back in its place last fall, and I only paid for materials until they were about 80% done. He gave me a fully itemized quote for materials and labor on several different parts of the construction. Framing, roof, decking, walls, paint etc and he wanted a check for the materials, or for me to come to the store with him and buy them if I wanted to. Very honest guy, showed me receipts for everything purchased. There's no way I would have paid more than 50% upfront, in fact the large load of lumber was in my yard for a week before he actually asked for the first check. Once everything was built, and all that was left was finishing and paint, he asked for the remaining quoted price on those pieces.

So the concrete truck showed up and no one was there? Or did they just quit about 3 minutes into the job?

I do not have my glasses on but wow I don’t think I will put them on to see how bad the slab was poured.
On a pour even if you sub it out, I would assume you would be there just to check the start of the job.

footprints and holes in the concrete. Did they install rebar?
Don't need rebar for a patio with no footers. Some wire mesh or fibercrete or both is all that is needed

Where did he learn his construction skills? Jesus christ!

Shouldn’t need rebar on a residential slab on grade patio.

That’s not a patio...it’s the Moon!

That might be the worst concrete job I’ve seen
I've done better work myself and I don't really know shite about concrete. I'd be meeting that baw at Sonic and checking some damn knuckles.

Does that a-hole have an allergy to periods or punctuation in general? Jesus.

Would have been better if they had just dumped it out of the truck and let gravity smooth it out.
LOL.
If it had been done a couple inches lower (below door threshold) they could have spread some sand and used some pavers to cover up that shite. And let that shitty concrete act as a "base".

You mean you don't need 6 top plates
double top plate is good sextuple top plate is 3xs better.

For those of us who aren't contractors, what's wrong?

We're not getting the whole story. Someone didn't get paid (labor) and there was likely dispute ending with crew dragging up after putting down what was paid for (materials).
Or a shitty contractor schedules the concrete before the crew was ready to pour. Concrete starts to cure in the truck and was stiff as frick when they poured it. Took them forever to get a section in decent shape until it became to difficult to work. Nothing can be done at that point other than call it a day.
