She’d halted pay for the 35 employees — including herself — at Oasis Medspa & Salon, in Woodinville, and Amai Day Spa, in Bothell, in mid-March, when nonessential businesses in Washington closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

When Black-Lewis convened a virtual employee meeting to explain her good fortune, she expected jubilation and relief that paychecks would resume in full even though the staff — primarily hourly employees — couldn’t work.

She got a different reaction.

“It was a firestorm of hatred about the situation,” Black-Lewis said.

The anger came from employees who’d determined they’d make more money by collecting unemployment benefits than their normal paychecks.

Well, there’s an easier solution for the employees.

Quit.

Figure out what’s better for you in the long term.

So she has a really dumb crew of people working for her that doesn't realize unemployment benefits don't run forever?

If her name was Black-Phillips, I’d be worried if I was her employee.

We got lucky we kept everyone on staff and paid while we were shut down for a couple weeks. Companies that laid people off are going to be in a bind for PPP forgiveness because of the new unemployment payments.

Temporarily*

Can we get a follow up on this story a few months after the economy is back and these people quit their jobs for higher unemployment checks that stopped coming?

Do they get the same amount of Unemployment if they quit compared to being laid off?

How long does the unemployment run? It is at least as long as the PPP money will run. These don't sound like career minded employees. I don't think the long run calculation is cut and dry, and I don't think these are long term thinking employees anyway.

once they offered $600 + unemployment from state, i fully expected a lot more of this.

If i had been laid off, it would of been max from Missouri, $380 i think and then $600 from Feds. Almost 1K to sit home.

And we already have 2 generations of lazy fricks, expecting them to go back to work shouldn't of been a given
