I don't think this facility has much of a wetlands issue though. This area was pasture and/or cane fields.

What does this have to do with a steel plant on the Miss River?
And who do you think will protect the wetlands better? Space x who has to to actually operate their business or the govt who hasn't done anything to prevent coastal erosion

You’re looking at this all wrong. We just need more coastal lawsuits against oil companies. Hell, maybe start some against the petrochem and fertilizer companies.
Then we’ll have all the money we need to make coastal erosion go away!

It may not be required, but DEQ still puts some boilerplate EJ Consideration language in for permits that get a ton of comments. I guess as a CYA in case they get sued again.

so your idea is that industries is causing the wetlands to disappear...not redirecting and controlling of flooding??
i mean look I 100% want clean air and a clean environment....but what you said makes no sense at all
if you want to say they polluted the wetlands.....ok maybe but this isnt 1975 anymore and that shite is monitored like crazy. I work in the industry, we have meetings every morning about it.

That's great, but Louisiana still ranks among the highest states in the U.S. for industrial water pollution in 2026.

I don't doubt that at all.
I've just seen what so many plants and industries around where I live have done to our water, and ecosystems. I'm not even trying to argue that the Hyundai Steele plant would be a big offender, or significantly pollute water, but my point was that I don't think it has to do with "people never wanting to see LA advance and think everyone wants to live in the past" so much as people having genuine concerns about these things.

It's pretty much right on top of them. It is a small community that has had several generations grow up there. It is the life they choose no matter what we think of it.
Some people can't fathom people living in old houses in BFE between Donaldsonville and White Castle. But some people like the quiet, like the open cane fields, like the lack of traffic, and the slow pace of life.

Other people want to send their kids to a decent school, and don't like broken down f'ed up roads, run by a council that wants to keep "big business" like Piggly Wiggly out. Move farther into nowheresville.
The town is going to get two extra stoplights, and maybe a new gas station, and a little bit of traffic. Do you even know how data centers are staffed? There aren't 1k people all sitting at the same stoplight waiting to get to their shift at 8AM. But plants, that's OK for yokels.
That won't impact anybody living a mile off a parish road with chickens in their backyard. You can stay in your own little bubble with not a care in the world except your weekly trip to "the Wal-Mart," rocking on your porch and complaining about the weather.

I think he's referencing the houses in Modeste that will be right next door to the new plants.
But I'm pretty sure their battle was a lost cause once Ascension rezoned the area to heavy industrial use.

True. Generators are white noise, compared to living behind a Dollar General that gets it's dumpsters emptied at 0315. And in the country, on an acre, I get woken up by roosters and trains way too early.
However, just like everyone that bought houses in my old master planned community, the builder showed you where there could be petrochem storage facilities, where there could be high density retail, and they ignored it. It lasted for 15 years, and now they are getting a Home Depot dumped 30' from their rear fence. Caveat Emptor. Maybe people should pay attention to how they vote in local elections, or rather, all the local elections they skip.

That was my point from the beginning. Just because you and others don't like it, doesn't mean that that way of life isn't what some people want. And fricking them over for some shite developer to build a mcmansion subdivision of crap houses isn't alright.
We have all the conveniences of life on the East bank in AP and all the headaches, traffic, crime, and drama with it.
