There is no fire hotter than a skidded tire fire....

I have the small pellet stove and it does wonderful for 30-45 minutes, then it starts to die down. Don't consider adding more pellets as it snuffs the flame and becomes a smoke generator. It works the best by starting by pellets and once rolling adding chunk size hardwood. You can keep adding chunks without any problems.

Saw these are back on sale today and I've got a decent rebate on my credik card. Anyone bought one lately? Mostly concerned with whether or not these throw heat, seems about 50/50 from reviews.

I think they throw heat, we sit around ours and it feels great on a cold night. We have the Hotshot from Costco, it was cheaper than the Solo when you factor in the accessories.

Got dam. I'm not spending 500 or whatever to make a fire. I guess if I lived in subdivisions like most of you do, then maybe.

But out here on the cattle farm, we build our fires on the ground and sit around them like people have done since the dawn of time.

What kind of difference is something like a solo stove versus a 60 gallon sugar kettle?

I have one and I love it. If you plan on using normal size firewood go with the yukon size.

Hint: The fire isn't that smokeless until it gets going well. So start your fire 30 mins plus before you plan on sitting around it if you can.

THIS! I bought the middle size for my back patio. Works great....ONCE you get it rolling. It does smoke alot until then. Also regular size firewood doesn't fit that well in the middle size.

It does put out some heat once going. Overall I like it but for the price there are probably just as good other options.

have the yukon, only complaint is it doesn't heat low enough because of the walls....also, would wait and order in Feb - they slash prices after christmas

I have the midsize one. It’s fine but it is Smokey when first getting lit. Also have to watch kids around it. My daughter accidentally backed up into it and burned her leg.

ETA: I upgraded to a fire table with a line to our main gas feed.

I had the Breeo 24", as well. Loved it but it was too small for our supper club crowd. Went up to the 30" and can't tell you how much we enjoy it. Puts out considerably more heat that the 24". Get the sear plate - we use it for steaks , pork chops, shrimp, salmon etc. We've also used the basket attachment to steam oysters.

Yeah, that Yukon version is $400. You aren't getting the fabrication work done for that, much less a sugar kettle.

A family member has the Yukon solo stove...loves it.

One issue is that it consumes a lot of wood...so be well stocked if you get one.

Wife got me one for anniversary one year, but it was really for her. I thought it was the stupidest thing ever, way too much for a bonfire. Gotta admit tho, works pretty well. Don't tell her.

On Solo Stoves website right now you get a free Mesa as well. A little $80 free gift in addition to the sale. Academy has %20 their entire site right now but you still come out better ordering direct.

I have one sitting on my back deck. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Nice to look at the days not in use but I have never gotten it "smokeless" using my dried wood or store bought dried wood. I will say that I'm also in Florida... So it may also have to do with the fact that ~50 will be a "cold" night ( but usually 60s) and I don't get a massive fire going otherwise we're sweating also cleaning out the ashes. Friend (Indiana) uses a shop vac but that seems like a pain. I just carry it over to bushes and tip it over.. That's a pain also. But no rust

I understand where you’re coming from and I too prefer traditional fires. However, city slickers can’t just burn up a spot by the pool or swing set building fires. Besides, these things really put out some radiant heat and that is a good part of the attraction.

Back in the early '90s when the kids were little, I had the ingenious idea of multi-tasking a playground sandbox with a fire pit. It went swimmingly for one winter. Converting it back to a sand pit for the kids that spring wasnt a big deal. Until the kids came into the house looking like charcoal briquettes after digging down into the sandpit a foot or so. They loved the new "dormant volcano". My wife's large light grey living room rug...not so much

Solo Stove Fire Pits

I've seen them, but had no idea they were for fires.

Put me in the "What in tarnation?" group.
