No it’s basic fear porn. If the disease can’t kill 50,000 in fricking CHINA, it won’t approach that here

Do you know why it didn’t go past 50,000? They locked the citizens in their houses for two months. Thank you for proving my point on why we shouldn’t go back to normal life right now

So are you an economist or a doctor? Or just an expert in everything?

Ok so multiply that number by 10x. That’s still less than 1 million which is 5-7 times less than what the fear loving OP claimed.

But at least you understand this part. Ignore the death cult members who are going to savage you as they demand the death panels they claimed we would get with single payer health care.

It’s sad to see these “Pro-Lifers” change their tune so quickly. They never really cared about death panels in the first place

Yeah AFTER they had horrendous outbreaks and what seemed like everyone in Wuhan was infected. Still didn’t kill anywhere nearly as many as you predict it would

Lol no. I’d like to find a happy medium. Just making a point to say that China’s death toll wasn’t the product of everyone going about their lives normally like Trump is proposing

What point was the one where we decided China was now 100% truthful? Or is it constantly changing based on the argument we're trying to win?

You just value economics more than human life
its not an either-or

when people can't feed their kids in 4-5 months because they lost their job home, do human lives matter then?

people are going to suffer, die we get that, it sucks.
But the virus is most likely to kill the old and infirmed
people that would most likely die in the next 4 year anyway

the WORLDS economy will suffer, this isn't like a regional downturn where a percentage will move to a healthier region.

Here in the US it will hurt, it will hurt a lot
but we are unlikely to see mass starvation, in those 3 world countries where foreign aid is greatly diminished people will die of starvation. not tomorrow, not next week
but 2021... it will start

do those humans lives matter ?

That’s because they bolted people inside their homes to prevent further spread. Thank you for making my point.. again

It’s basic math... and the number was probably a lower estimate. The fact is a lot more people will die because of hospital resource/staff shortage from other health causes compared to COVID cases that would be flooding the system. That WILL happen if you go back right now. It’s not a fricking hoax

You say 7-10 million. I say 700-1000, can use basic math to back it up, and my scenario would be equally as plausible as yours.

You should just say “I’m here to fear monger” in every post and at least be open about it.

The only thing for certain about the Chinese numbers is that they are lies.

BS. The argument was that thinking about your own financial situation over the health of old people is wrong. That argument is asinine because very few people would devastate themselves economically to save the life of a random stranger. Deny it if you want, but it’s reality.

No, you missed the point. The old people aren't random strangers. They are my father, aunt, mother-in-law, etc.
If you all don't care about the older people in your life, thats fine, but don't act like one side of the argument is ridiculous.

You have to pretty much take the math to the fullest extent to get to a million deaths, much less several million.

The US population is roughly 330 million.

34% of our population is over 50.

Just under 40% of all adults over the age of 20 are obese.

45% of our population has at least one chronic illness.

There are 30 million Americans with diabetes and another 70 million with pre-diabetes.

38 million Americans smoke cigarettes and over 10.5 million vape.

We are not a healthy country. Let this shite run wild and it will get really bad.

He has been far from perfect. There has been good and bad. But can you imagine this happening on the watch of his feckless, lazy, incompetent predecessor? We'd really be in a world of hurt. Hell, we'd still be letting the Chinese pour in. So it could be worse.

Could be

My personal belief is that Obama probably would have handled this better from a pure management perspective. I think he's a more capable leader for a situation like this, where he'd have the media on his side and a GOP congress that would no doubt challenge him, but probably wouldn't be outright opposed to his efforts like Democrats are. So in fairness to Trump, not all of my opinion is based purely on Trump vs. Obama, some of it has to do with the adoration of Obama by influencers (media, etc.) and their unfair reactions to Trump.

That doesn't mean I want Obama back, btw.

Never said they were and only using published numbers. Make it 10 times worse and it never got to 1/7 as bad as op claims it would have gotten here
