Camp Sequoyah boy scout camp back when I was 14 or 15. I was participated in the older boys program: mountain biking, swimming, navigation, and rappelling.
We practiced rappelling for a couple of days and the third day they had us tie our own knots to the harness. I apparently tied mine wrong and nobody bothered to check. I stepped off the top of the tower onto the 2x4 and leaned back. Suddenly my line begins coming out of my harness. I scrambled to reach back onto the tower. Lucky for me the tower officer was able to grab me back the back of my harness and pull me up. I definitely would not have survived a 100ft fall to the ground.
I never rappelled again until Marine Corps boot camp.

I once fishtailed and hit a cement culvert while going about 50 MPH. My truck rotated and did a 270 degree turn on it's front end. Basically, the truck landed on it's wheels facing perpendicular to the road after all was said and done. My seat belt saved me that night for sure, I actually didn't even touch my airbag. I saw it deploy and come at my face, but it stopped an inch or so short because my seat belt didn't allow me to move. I would have gone through the windshield if not for the seat belt.

Went to check on a crew busting up a parking lot at LSU in preparation for a directional bore. Dump trailer was full so I hopped in the dually to go dump it at the shop for them. Idiot operator loaded all of the concrete in the back of the trailer and the dirt/mud in the front. Got on 110 and evidently the concrete shifted at about 65mph and the trailer started fishtailing and bouncing violently side to side. Then the truck started the same. No idea how we didn't hit the rail head on. Took about a mile of coasting before it calmed down. Everyone that passed me after was either clapping or had the just saw a ghost look on their faces. Pretty sure I ruined that pair of drawers.

ICU close to a month after appendix ruptured at only 5 years old. Fever got way up there many times. Asked my parents who was singing those sweet songs to me but they heard nothing. Saw the white light tunnel and heard “you can’t come yet, you still have work to do.” It felt like the best sleep I have ever had in my life. Looking forward to going back one day.
No joke.
I was in eighth grade when I got appendicitis. My pediatrician misdiagnosed me with the stomach flu, so I deteriorated over the next several days. By the time my parents took me to the ER, the surgeons said I would have died from peritonitis had they waited any longer.
To make matters worse, the EJGH surgeons screwed up, and I had to go back in for a second surgery to clear up the infection. Watched Mardi Gras on TV that year (1983) from my parents' bed.
Missed a ton of school but finished at St. Philip. Best part about coming back to school was that I was a celebrity, and my homeroom teacher Mrs. Foley went to the Schwegmann's on the corner of Vets/Power and got me a roast beef po-boy for lunch that day.

Whitewater rafting is definitely dangerous. I too had the experience of getting sucked under and popping out just as I was completely out of breath.

Mid 80's I was going South on Causeway on the overpass to get on Jefferson Hwy. Some a-hole was passing an 18 wheeler in the blind turn. I hit my breaks and he continued to pass the truck and just made it with inches before a head on collision with me. There is no way that a-hole is alive today with the way he was driving.
I was the best man in my buddies wedding. I had a party for them the Sunday before the wedding. I was drinking Scotch. I drank about 3 quarters of the bottle. I was so sick/alcohol poisoning (?). I have never been that sick from alcohol in my life. I had to get re-fitted for tux because I had lost so much weight. I could barely give the best man speech Wednesday night.

Do you wear a seatbelt now?

Turning left, with a green arrow in a Toyota Camry. I was in the back seat. There was a Ford Excursion coming the opposite direction that T-boned us going about 50mph on my side. I honestly don't know how I survived it.

I was a kid (6 or 7 years old) riding on a tractor with my father as he plowed. I was standing beside the chair, and the back of the tractor was open. Hit a bump and I fell straight back, hit my back hard, and couldn't move as I was between the tractor and plow. My father stopped in time, and luckily my brother was not far away so he ran and pulled me out.

Pretty sure one night years ago in college a mixture of cocaine and Xanax and too much whiskey almost killed me. Like I laid in the bed and couldn't force myself to move. It took all the concentration I had to clench and release my fist over and over. Then I blacked out and woke up 8 hours later and was ok. Never got that fricked up again

Riding a four wheeler in a creek in the winter so the creek was frozen over with ice. I was hauling arse down the ice hitting breaks and doing donuts, etc.
I did that one too many times with more speed and lost control flew off the four wheeler and hit my head on a rock. Was knocked out cold for awhile. My dad was scared shitless. Apparently i got up at some point and crawled over to some brush and just laid there for 10 minutes. I finally came out of it and was so confused as to why i was laying on the ground. Never did that again.
I had severe migraines once a month in HS after that for 3 years. To the point if I didn't my prescribed pills I would throw up.

Allergic reaction to shellfish, ate it ky whole life untik i was 26. Was at resturant eating and all of a sudden felt like my body was on fire and knew something was wrong. We got in vehicle and headed towards ER.. started vomiting everywhere. Got there and my bp was something insane.. gave me epi and steroid shot, i was scared and asked what now, they just said lets see if the shots work... and i was like "and if they dont". Needless to say i have major anxiety eating places now and never even eat places that cook shellfish. Went to specialist and got tested and he said i was on the highest scale and any exposure could be deadly.

I got pulled under water after trying to surf in Hawaii. I was dragged so far under and out that I physically gave up. Seconds later I was in a few inches of water. Stood up and never went back in the water.
