Flood insurance is not prudent or reasonable in every area.

You a goomba if you live close on either side of the MS River and don't carry it. My parents included.

They were developed there for that reason, so I can understand not purchasing insurance.

I'll never understand why someone who lives in south LA doesn't have flood insurance. Never.

Several people in this thread as well as others have said that they won't be getting flood insurance because if they flood everyone else is fricked too or something like that. I guess some people are just that stubborn.

If by some miracle my parent's trailer ends up not being flooded(we have no idea and won't know until the water goes down)....I will personally pay for the flood insurance coverage for them if I have to.

If it is flooded and they start all over and come move to AZ by me...I'll still buy them flood coverage.

However...considering the amount of people on this board that didn't have flood insurance and JUST lost everything or know family/friends that have....can we please display SOME compassion for them on here right now.

I'm an adjuster, and I specialized in mobile home claims for 8 years. The worst flood claims I ever saw were in 2011, Tropical Storm Lee. This was in Hershey PA and all over central PA. I unfortunately had to deny a lot of flood claims.

I would recommend reporting a claim with your insurance carrier even if you don't have a flood policy. Get a formal denial letter from them asap and seek any kind of assistance available. There might be help from FEMA depending on your income, etc...

Also, your insurance carrier might find coverage for non flood related issues, like roof leaks or wind damage. Their adjuster had better be evaluating your property for all types of damage. Not just flood. So report a claim asap!

For mobile homes...water might not reach the subfloors, but it can get into the floor insulation...or underbelly. Sometimes just tearing out wet "underbelly" material can save all of the floors in the mobile home.

Eta...sorry about your dad's situation.

Insurance companies deny a lot of all claims.

Thank you nurse.

I don't know how I can explain more clearly that this was a once in a generation event. Possibly more rare. People talk about the flood in 83 being the worst they've ever seen, and this was worse. I'm sorry, but there's a difference between someone living on the west bank in NOLA and not carrying flood insurance and someone living in Livingston north of I12. I wonder if these people on their high horses also carry earthquake riders on their homeowners policy?

Sorry if I've offended anyone. I had a long day yesterday. It's going to be a long week. Not only am I dealing with family members affected by this including myself, albeit minor, we haven't heard from several people in my company and some we have are still in harms way.

So seriously, if anyone's aim is to talk about how superior your decision making skills are, then given what's going on, perhaps you should use them and just shut the frick up.

Nice post. I just read a lot of what an insufferable a-hole had to say yesterday. He spent his whole day berating those who did not have flood insurance. He offered nothing to help, any words of encouragement or any offers of help.

People who did not have flood insurance do not need some dickhead standing on their neck right now. Maybe he will frick off and die or just go away quietly. Either way, his presence is not required here. This was never intended to be a thread about kicking those who are down.

Whether you have a little damage, or a lot, I hope a ray of sunshine and a little good news finds its way to you today.

Good luck to all.
