That will cause the very people who need to avoid the HFCS the most to continue to buy that version because it will be cheaper.

Yep. This is strictly about money. CocaCola US saw how much CocaCola FEMSA (Mexico) was charging for "Mexican Coke" and wants that money. (For those that don't know, The CocaCola Company and CocaCola FEMSA are not the same company, they are a joint venture)

Mexican Coke is around $1.50 a bottle. CocaCola US can get that price to between $1.00 and $1.25 and make more money for the US company while customers think they are getting a deal.

You can already buy Mexican coke here. The Kroger down the street from me sells it. So absolutely nothing changes

It is addictive.

I found this out after the first time I went to Europe.

fat fricks sucking down 6 cokes a day is the issue.

yeah, I find all the complaints about sodas, specifically diet sodas, to involve people who drank three or more a day or fill up the 64oz big gulp bucket multiple times daily to be the victims of all these boogey man ingredients.

Moderation being the key as the old saying goes.

Yes it does. The sugar will come from American Sugar Cane although some say they will use Sugar Beets. about that second part.

They are just gonna make mexican Coke here and sell it as a second product. The HFCS Coke will still be the main Coke.

eta unless they try to pull some bullshite like making the sugar-version more expensive which would likely piss people off.
Why do you think they went to HCFS in the first place? Do you think they will just sell them at the same price and accept lower profit?

They did this once before around 2014 - 2015 and then it went away because of poor sales.

I'm sure the same thing will happen this time. I bet there is way more profit in HFCS products and I read that the shelf life is longer than using cane sugar.

Cane sugar coke and HFCS coke are pretty much the same chemically after they've been bottled for about 2 months. This is red meat for the base.

They made that clear in the initial statement. Some people just don't read past headlines or single social media posts.

No shite, did you think Trump’s statement was actually true? They probably are only doing this much so Trump doesn’t look like a total buffoon.

I believe coke uses HFCS 55. It's a sugar that is 55% fructose and 45% glucose.

Correct the other main HFCS product HFCS 42 is promarily used in savory preparations since with the lower level of fructose, it isn't quite as "sweet".

quote:

But sucrose is broken down by sucrase in your belly into fructose and glucose so the insulin spike is a little slower with sucrose than with HFCS.

Sucrose starts in the stomach by the acids but for complete inversion to its monoschrides (glucose and fructose) it has to get to the small intestine, where we have the natrually occuring enzyme invertase.

With Coke specifically or any acidic liquid in general the inversion of HFCS starts the second it is mixed, and full inversion to free glucose and fructose occurs by the time it is consumed.

The Mexican Coke formula is different from the US Coke formula but we don't know by how much but it does contain nearly twice as much salt which alone will result in a different flavor profile.

IMO based on looking at the chemistry, reading studies about the biology (above my pay grade left to my own devices) and conversations with my wife and casual conversations with other MDs I do not think HFCS is any better or worse for you than sucrose. I actually think there is more molar sweeterner in Mexican Coke than US Coke, but I can't prove it, and the labels are a bit counterintuitive.

If people drink sugar-sweetened Coke they should drink what you prefer, but don't mask the choice under the guise of health, that doesn't seem provable.

I was surprised you didn't show up in either of the earlier threads to help with the chem discussions.
