Apart from their gathering of my genetic information - which wouldn’t really bother me if I was confident that there was no way to tie that info to me, but the recent murderer case in CA proves otherwise - apart from that, I have serious doubts as to the accuracy of such test.
I think several of their connections are tenuous at best, but they are at least misleading people as to what exactly their results can identify.
Furthermore, both of the two largest such companies have been involved with controversy recently. One falsified results to improve their appeal and misrepresented their accuracy. The other company straight up lied for SJW reasons - the CEO admitted that they fudged results to make people appear more culturally diverse so that they would be inclined to be “less racist.”
So that is all to say that I don’t trust these over the counter companies.

Nope.
I don't understand the desire for all of this. I have a hard enough time keeping track of the few people I want in my life after living 50 years. I have zero desire to connect or learn about people I don't know already.
That's not even getting into where that info goes and what they do with it.
Hard HARD pass

I don’t like the what if’s the tests potentially hold. It could rock the foundation of your life and upset everything known about your family and your world You know how Junior is so much taller than everyone and the wife has told you it is a recessive gene from her mothers distant relatives you’ve never met.....Remember that little fling with that sorority girl on spring break back in 1992?. There’s a 26yo who wants to reach out and connect with you. That guy I’ve been calling dad all along..... well son, you see what happened was..... sometimes ignorance is bliss. Although it might be nice to find a trace of scholarship worthy ancestry.

DNA is a hoax.
Do you mean like, Ancestry? or Deoxyribonucleic acid is a hoax?
Cause you're sounding a little drunk.

So, I guess that means I am officially the father.

Oh dear Lord, I hadn’t even considered that possibility.
This is why we come here to talk things out.
I got 23 and me(I think). I got all of about a half second to look before kids were ripping into another present.

Hope you enjoyed your life of freedom to this point. Moving forward always remember, "don't drop the soap homie".

Could my great grandson for example, get “pre”-arrested Minority Report style if they are able to somehow determine a “violence” gene or some such. Could they just start pre-emtively rounding up folks who share the “criminal” gene?
Out of all the downsides, you picked the most insane scenario to worry about

Ancestry kit
I'm surprised that the dozens of children that I fathered with future supermodels while I was in college haven't contacted me yet.

I laughed that off until the police began to submit DNA samples so they could track down relatives of perps and zero in for the arrest.

This.
I've never ever killed someone or come close to doing so but there is no way I'm just gonna walk into the police station and say " Hey here I am, clear me of all the crimes I've never committed "
That's basically what this is becoming. Why would I do that? I don't trust anything or anyone anymore.

So long as you did not go on a raping and killing spree in your youth, leaving your DNA to be detected, then have fun with it.

I think the more realistic and concerning possibility, which no one has mentioned, is when health insurance companies start requiring you to submit DNA to get a policy. They already test blood for certain indicators. Just wait until they pull a complete DNA profile and start denying coverage based off of certain factors. AND sell your data to the highest bidder on the back side because that was covered in the 50 page release you signed and didn’t read when you got the policy.

I did it a few weeks ago. They already have all my shite anyway so whatever.
Same thing with these “don’t use Alexa people”... You have a smart phone right? What do you think that thing is doing?

DO NOT FOOL WITH FIRE. You were warned. I've heard some crazy stories about the results. Someone found out his dad wasn't his day, another proved a kid was his. That stuff ain't worth the problems.

do I really want my DNA(and therefore all my descendants’ DNA) stored in some future(you know it’s coming) federal database?
What are they going to do with it? No one seems to want to answer this question.

What? You people and these conspiracy theories. Why does everyone think their DNA is special and the special govt agency has a plan for it?
What are they going to do with it?

It’s just a user-funded genetics data gathering scheme.
