Well I don't really, but the actress that played her for 15+ years is white, so the complaint is legitimate.
So only Emma Watson can ever play Hermione? What does it matter if a white, black, or purple female plays Hermione? Pretty much you are saying that you only see people for the color of their skin.

The actual author, JK Rowling doesn't give a shite so why should other people?? LINK

Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione ??

Jesus do you not understand that fictional characters get identified by and associated with their physical characteristics?
No one is saying only Christopher Reeve can only play Superman, but it needs to be a tall, Caucasian make with dark hair and features. It's not being racist by saying Superman shouldn't be some short fat Indian dude.

I was about to post the same thing
The amount of apparent racism in every day life that everyone accepts really astonishes me. So many people accept that "black people" and "white people" are different groups, when in fact we are all just fricking people. Cultures and societies make peoples different from one another, not the color of their skin.

Haha yeah it's pretty fricking ignorant to give a shite about this.

who cares but James Bond should be a white dude

Worried over the skin color of an actress in a play, which you'll never see, about a book for children, is pure gump.
How did you find out about this in the first place? Did the Decatur, AL newspaper suddenly have an Arts and Leisure section purely to show their faux outrage over this?

No it does not, and that perfectly fits my point about apparent racism.

Why not? Superman doesn't need muscles, his strength comes from alien powers. And why would an alien look exactly like an american? So again, you can accept that an alien comes to Earth, is perfectly disguised by a pair of sunglasses and gets power from our sun, but only if it as an alien that looks exactly like a stereotypical alpha white male american?

So Ron looks like a creepy band teacher with no red hair, but you're worried about Hermoine?

How is an awesome character in the biggest movie ever and a black chick being in a stage play bad for black people?

At least she (obviously) has British dentifrice.

Superman is white, get over it. Black people have bad arse superheroes too, like Bishop, who is one of the baddest arse ones of all time in comics.

It's funny that this would bother anyone.
I follow racing a good bit. I just found out last week that Lewis Hamilton is black. This is evidently a big deal to some people.
I just knew he was fast AF.

I don't see why people get their feathers ruffled because they cast an actress that happens to be black. It doesn't have to be that they are trying to be progressive. Being white isn't integral to the character. It might just be that the actress is talented and brings the attitude that the producers/directors/ whoever is in charge envisions for the character in a play. Stop being so sensitive, daffodil.

Really? Appearance isn't an important piece of being a character? Ok, then maybe they should have a robot play her, or maybe a petting zoo animal.

Being black is essential to the true story that Roots is based on. But I don't see anything wrong with an all white cast of Madea. They wouldn't have to change much.
Besides, there's lots of all white movies and not many all black ones. Black stage actors shouldn't have to wait for the stage versions of Kevin Hart movies to get parts.

Because most movies and plays feature white characters?
The original Battlestar Galactica only had two black characters, both men. When they remade it one of them was changed to a white man and the other to an Asian woman.
