re: SO telling you what they want as gift

So the gf and I were talking about Valentines. She then asks me to listen to a short list of things she wants and that I should pick one as my gift to her.
The fact that she just expects some shite for valentine's day every year is all the more reason for you to skip a year. It will make her start appreciating things again.
By that I mean text her Happy Valentine's Day, tell her you love her, do whatever, but don't buy her anything. Then next year you can get her flowers and she'll be thankful. I do this every other year or so. Unless my fiance has just done a bunch of nice stuff for me, I don't feel obligated to buy her shite as a duty. It's a two way street and she knows that.
If that's not enough, start looking for a side piece or a younger, better looking chick you can dominate psychologically because your act isn't working on this one.

After years of marriage, she takes my card and buys her own shite. Greatest thing in the world.

Well, I'll say that one year my husband gave me a necklace that was something I'd NEVER pick out for myself. Think I wore it once.
Now after 25 years of marriage, I either buy it myself (which he's good with) OR I pick a few things and he can choose what he'd like to get for me.
Dating? well, IDK if I'd be so forward depending on how long we'd been dating.
ETA: we don't do Valentine's Day. Never really have -- although one year our daughter was both of our Valentine gift as it's her birthday. I was speaking of birthday/Christmas (not that we always do that either).

You don't know shite about women.
You have to do both. Get her only what she told you she wants and you'll be in trouble for not caring enough to know what she might like.
Get her only what you think she wants and you're in trouble for not paying enough attention to know what she asks for.

in trouble
What does that even mean? How can you be "in trouble" with your wife as if you're some kind of child or some shite?
What's she going to do? Take your toys away? Take her pussy away?

My initial reaction was wtf. She doesn't get to choose her present. It's supposed to be something I pick out because I think she'll enjoy it/like it. Which is what I'm going to do.
It makes it easier for me.
And Valentine's Day is a bullshite holiday anyway simply designed to make money from poor guys with bimbo girlfriends and make single people feel bad about themselves.

Nope....not ever celebrating it is way better.

I always tell my wife to tell me what she wants for birthdays/christmas/whatever.
Guarantees her happiness.
Guarantees her happiness.

You either listen and act or pay for it later. Your decision, choose wisely.

Tried this one year to make the very same point. She didn't take it very well, but I did go all out for the bday. Still didn't make her forget.
Maybe I just don't understand where this is coming from as I would be perfectly fine never receiving gifts ever.

Women are unbelievably entitled

Thoughts?
Assuming what she wants is in your price range, you have two options, depending on what kind of girl she is:
She wants you to be thoughtful.
OR
She wants you to be creative.
If it's the first one, get something she tells you she wants, the exact brand and model. She'll be very happy with you. She just wants to know that you listen to her wants and needs, and you will be rewarded accordingly. My wife falls into this camp, so these people certainly do exist.
If it's the second one, use what she gave you as a guideline. Try to find something similar, but not the exact same thing. If possible, maybe try to find something in the same style from a local boutique or artist, if possible. Find what she likes, but with a slightly different spin on it. Some women feel like you aren't passionate if you just give them what they tell you they want. They don't just want a trained monkey that can follow directions, they want someone who can think for themselves and be creative enough to anticipate their wants before they even know they have them. If what she picks out is not in your price range, definitely go this route and try to find a budget alternative.

I was under the impression vday gifts were mainly for toddlers and high school relationships. I'm surprised to see how many married folk exchange presents for this holiday.

Run. That's my only advice.

Whose fault is that?
We have men here saying they're worried about getting "in trouble" for not getting the right stuff. If you treat your wife like a child, she'll act like a child.

Yeah, after you're married for a while you just want them to tell you what they want.
Exactly! AND, you will benefit by returning the favor. That way, hopefully, you get what you want and not some crap!

Why not just go buy your own gift then? And she can buy her own gift?
Posted on 2/1/17 at 2:15 pm to shotcaller1
You are setting a bad precedent by getting her anything at all. If she complains she is too high maintenance, and the shitestorm you will have to endure is a small price to pay for knowing it now.
