So the gf and I were talking about Valentines. She then asks me to listen to a short list of things she wants and that I should pick one as my gift to her.

My initial reaction was wtf. She doesn't get to choose her present. It's supposed to be something I pick out because I think she'll enjoy it/like it. Which is what I'm going to do.

Thoughts?

Tell her that you want a nice steak and bj on Valentine's Day and if you don't get it then she won't get a gift either

My wife does that with all her gifts. Makes it much easier.

Yeah, after you're married for a while you just want them to tell you what they want.

Doesn't bother me if my wife does it. I'd rather get her something she wants instead of guessing at it. Our Amazon lists help each other out.

That's women for you. Zero fun. And it's Valentimes.

Buy her a shoe rack. Chicks are really into those these days.

You've got it made. The worst is when they DONT tell you and leave you wondering what to buy.

I would much rather my wife tell me what she wants. It is way way easier to get a gift that way.

I always felt the same back in my dating days.

I hated seeing someone buy me something knowing I would never use it

You're making a foolish decision

I've been with my wife 13 years. It's just so much easier and better to just let her pick her gift. It's more "special" when it's what she wants.
You're overthinking this

She may be hinting that you are not very good buying gifts.

Personally, I think that's great. I hate trying to guess what people would want...

Seriously, gifts?

We just go to Kobe for dinner, and i buy a box of chocco covered strawberries for both of us.

The days of me spending hundreds on V-day are over. She gets pissed when i send her flowers on v-day. She says save the money and quit wasting it on flowers/gifts

I prefer this as well. Then I go through them one by one with her and tell her why she will not be getting that particular gift.

What happened to just giving flowers, chocolate, or a card?

Valentines day is a dumb holiday.

not really.
Yeah it makes it easier. But when you get creative every once on a while, it's much more special to them.
You can tell by the uptick in sex in the following months.
