But of course this would depend on me marrying a sensible woman that actually plans for the future, not some crazy and petty girl that just wants to get on a pedestal and one up everyone.

good luck with that. hope you find a nice autistic girl.

I should have hired the posters in this thread to decorate for my wedding. All the women would have been safe, y’all would have boosted my ego constantly telling me how handsome I am, and it would have looked marvelous

Agreed.

It is a special day, for the bride and groom. They want to celebrate it with family and friends.

We had an awesome time and I didn't regret spending one penny.

Wedding planners are the way to go.

What if you marry into an upper middle class family that finds the idea of spending $50,000 on a wedding a waste of money?

Had to wade thru pages of Martha Stewart bitchiness to get to the correct answer.

Get told how awesome our reception was. Don’t regret a moment of our traditional wedding and $10K reception. Thanks Southern Oaks for a spectacular night.

I have two daughters and can't imagine spending that much on a wedding, though I know it's almost de rigueur at this point. Knowing that they inflate prices because it's a wedding rather than a reunion or something else is also irritating.

When you're laid up in that box, nobody's gonna talk or care about how much money you have in the bank. You sure as hell can't take it with you and you can't buy one extra day to be with those you love.

Better enjoy this life, you get to be here once.

Heaven forbid someone on the OT knows a poor person. Ironically, most of the condescending comments are probably from people swimming in debt trying to live like ballers.

A buddy of mine works for the state and gave his daughter a budgeted amount of money to have her wedding. She spent little on flowers/decorations. Most was spent on the reception and theyhired a great band and caterer. I never thought to check the cost of the napkins, plates, cake and cutlery but had a great time nonetheless.

Knew my son-in-law has expensive tastes. The type to drive a leased foreign car, with less than a thousand dollars in the bank. I came up with the idea of telling them I would pay for half the wedding. The idea that it would cost them money caused them to self budget. Then payed off the full cost as a wedding gift.
