Nike: a company who's main item (shoes) is directly marketed to black people, used a very popular black person in their add.

Gillete: a company who's main item is directly marketed to men, attacked men.

The parallel's! They're so the same thing!

One of the largest apperal companies in the world only markets to 13% of the population of one country?

That's news to me

As I mentioned in the other thread. With the new razor companies that have popped up over the past 5-7 years, Gillette has been taking a beating. Just look at their stock. Those companies sort of go the "manly man" route. So Gillette decided to go in another direction.

This is why everyone who thinks this is a horrible decision by Gillette doesn't work in marketing.

No one is trying to change your life or American values.. Or the world. They just want to increase sales. That's what it all comes down to.

Skinny jeans is now just a synonym for non fat person jeans.

It's not really that.

It's the fact that Nike's ad pissed off people that didn't really buy Nike anyway. Gillette pissed off a big chunk of their actual customers.

I'm willing to bet the bottom line impact will still be marginal nonetheless. Being pissed off =/= you stop buying the product.
